Publisher's summary

One choice can transform you - or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves - and herself - while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable - and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Featured Article: Excellent Dystopian Listens Like The Hunger Games

The popularity of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games trilogy and its film adaptations has paved the way for so many great dystopian books and series in YA, imagining harrowing worlds where teens must fight for survival and define what life means to them. The enduring popularity of the series has proven that dystopian stories and the sometimes-dark futures they imagine are endlessly fascinating to our imaginations.

WOW I like this one much better than the first one

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emma Galvin?

I wish she’d working on distinguishing each character voices. I love her voice for Tris, but she is no Tavia Gilbert.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait for the next book.

Better than the first book

I find the performance too flat. it's hard not to tune it out sometimes.

As for the text, I did not enjoy the first book at all and barely finished it. I'm not sure why I chose to start the second considering that but I'm glad I did. it's much better. Still not great, but hopeful for the third.

Outstanding.

Outstanding performance by Emma Galvin. I can't see difference between the original movie and overall interpretation.

Good but not great

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book doesn't really seem necessary. It could have been absorbed into the first book easily.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I haven't read the third book, but I'm imagining this could have been a two book series.

What does Emma Galvin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Yes. It took a while for me to get used to her voice, but it grows on you quickly.

Was Insurgent worth the listening time?

Wouldn't be my first choice, but if are out of books to read, this isn't a bad one.

Any additional comments?

Good but not great.

The Story Satifyingly Matures in Divergent Book 2

I often wait until the series is finished before I begin a trilogy. I hate having to wait for the next book. This series gets more intersting as it develops in this, the second book. The storyline matures and the dystopian theme expands beyond teenagers into a battle within different factions of a society and the interdependence among them. The stage is well set for an exploration of the meaning and construction of society in the next book. The narration was excellent. The teeage tone brought more out of the story than I would have embellished in my own imagination. I wish I didn't have to wait...

Entertaining enough

Story is good, interesting ideas, narrator is slow (I sped it up) and written for youth. So the writing could have been better but overall a decent read. On to the third book in the series....

beautifully crafted

This book was sweeter than sweet , more amazing than Houdini him self , Live ( if I was around during that period , I'm positive) .This book kept me on the edge of my seat and at the tip of my toes at some points. I hope you like it as much as I did. The narrator was on point as far as the voice inflections and kept it really interesting and had me asking for more. I would recommend this book to anyone.
