Publisher's summary

One choice can transform you - or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves - and herself - while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable - and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Great book!

This is an excellent follow-up to Divergent. I love the combination of action, mystery, and romance. I found it both engaging and thought provoking.

I'm just glad the young adults are reading

What did you like best about Insurgent? What did you like least?

I liked the basic outline of the plot. It was less of a straight script like the hunger games was, but still didnt leave much to the readers imagination

Enthralled!

Where does Insurgent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Insurgent is only the 3rd audiobook I've ever listened to; LOVE this series. I am totally taken in. This is on pair w hunger games and I'm so glad I only have to wait a few days for #3 :)

What does Emma Galvin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Emma Galvin IS tris; so convincing and when the movies come out I'll have a hard time putting the new voice to the character :)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I'd had 11.5 hours to sit and listen this would be the series :)

A Great story continues!

I loved the first book. But the second book was even better. It is amazing to see how they use our modern medical devices in the future just to see how progressive their scientist are. What Beatrice had to go through in this book because she is divergent is amazing. That a girl of 16 would give her group or "sanction" help by giving herself up to be studied by their scientist to figure out why she fits into 3 sanctions. And how Four tries to help her and loves her but treats her with respect and teaches her about the different sanctions and their societies. Great story! Very engaging and riviting . Great writing. Enjoyed every page!

So you thought you knew the characters

Would you listen to Insurgent again? Why?

I have listened to Insurgent about 3 times in the last few weeks. I enjoy listening for things that I may have missed the first time.

Would you be willing to try another book from Veronica Roth? Why or why not?

I will still listen to the next book for I want to know what happens to Tris and Four.

Which scene was your favorite?

This may be a spoiler but I enjoyed when we finally went back to Dauntless head quarters and they used the paintball guns to cover the cameras.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Once again, spoiler! I loved when Four refused to let Tris go to the bridge on her own. He was so upset with her choice but still supported her with his leg so she could hold on.

Any additional comments?

In Divergent I was willing to believe the extremes that each fraction had become. I enjoyed hearing Tris's challenges and the interplay with her fellow Dauntless. Four was especially a favorite of mine. I adored his love of all the fractions and how he manipulated society from behind the scenes. In Insurgent we see a big change in Four and Tris. Four beomes much more concerned with societies politics and playing a big role in it. Tris becomes reckless and pushes away from her friends.I hope we see more trust between Four and Tris in the next book.

Decent follow up to Divergent.

Insurgent is a book I have had on my back burner for a while. I listened to the last book Divergent on a whim, and enjoyed it. As with the first book, much of the charm of this book is the reading by narrator Emma Galvin. She is perfect for these books, and I think I would not have enjoyed them as much without her.

Insurgent, unfortunately though, suffers a little bit from the middle book syndrome I think. While I found myself engrossed in the first book by learning about the factions and the world they live in, the second book has lost this novelty. The book takes a little while to get going, and most of the book is about tying up loose ends from the first book, and setting up things for the next book. Also, being that I am not the teenager that this book is aimed at, I grew a little bored of the teen romance and self pitty.

With that said, Insurgent is not a long book, and for a middle book in a series, I pretty much enjoyed it over all. I am looking forward to the final book in the series.

Reread

Not as strong as the first book, but still a great book and follow up to the events of the first book. Just as before, the faction system still has me intrigued, but now with the addition of the factionless added another dynamic that helped the book. The series has been a favorite of mine and will continue to be a reread series.
