Publisher's summary

Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something's got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past.

Nastasya finally begins to deal with life, and even feels safe - until the night she learns that someone wants her dead.

Cate Tiernan, author of the popular Sweep series, returns with an engaging story of a timeless struggle and inescapable romance, the first book in a stunning new fantasy trilogy.

Excellent

This story has a very different twist on the whole "Immortal" thing. It is actually a beautifully told story that has everything: love, history, magic, self growth and maturity... Very refreshing. Nasty is hillarious and heart breaking at the same time. I can't wait for the sequel!

WORTHY OF MORE RECOGNITION

WORTHY OF MORE RECOGNITION

I don’t even know how to explain myself in coherent words… I feel like I just want to shake people and yell “WHY HAVE YOU NOT LISTENED TO THIS YET??? WHY DO WE ONLY HAVE 64 TOTAL RATINGS?!? STOP IT. RIGHT NOW. AND GET THIS” But, alas, I cannot. SO heres your verbal beating! Do you love snaky sarcastic flawed heroines? Slow burn romance? Solid, believable and wicked interesting plot lines? Masterfully crafted character development? Are you a fan of Kate Daniels & Mercy Thompson? If you answered YES to even just ONE of those questions then I feel there is NO REASON you shouldn’t be listening right now. I will clarify and say that the Immortal Beloved series isn’t exactly similar to the two fabulous titles mentioned above. What IS SIMILAR is the non-stop awesomeness, the subtlety snarky dialogue that is literally laugh out loud (this series maybe even more than the others…. If you like witty banter then I can guarantee that you will indeed LAUGH OUT LOUD) and intricate plot lines. I don’t even really know how this is categorized but it isn’t YA or ROMANCE. I would call it a SOLID URBAN FANTASY. I wont re-hash the plot line or summary because you can definitely find that just about anywhere on the ‘net but I want to attempt to convince you to at least give it a try.
Nastasya, our main character and the narrative, delivers some of the best inner and outer dialogue that is snarky without ever getting close to the ‘annoying’ level while simultaneously showing how much heartbreakingly vulnerable and realistic she is (in the sense of how any normal person would deal with the things she has had to go through) She is hard and soft, immature and tired of herself and most of all desperately but unwilling to fully admit that she needs to change everything about herself (at first.. that is…. SEE! CHARACTER. DEVELOPMENT.) One of my favorite things about our heroine is that she doesn’t ever, seriously not even once, try and claim that she is something that she’s not. That’s one of my biggest pet peeves.. when a heroine constantly claims not to be a coward or puts herself on a pedestal as a hardass…..than does things that directly contradict her own claims!!! The most impressive factor I think the author has achieved is her ability to stay true to her characters and make the readers (listeners) understand them as if we were all BFF’s
Our hero, Reyn, isnt your typical standoffish a-hole that we’ve all come to know and love in UF romances. He is the way he is for a whole bunch of reasons, quite similar to Natasyas personal predicaments actually. Equally, Reyn is fleshed out, we don’t just get a glimpse of his nature… we GET his nature, we GET him. WE FREAKIN’ LOVE HIM. He definitely gets on the top 5 heroes of my time.

The NARRATOR is fabulous, I feel like I’m actually hearing Natasya speak. Her inflections are superb. Every once in a while she delivers a line that instantly makes me think of Jenna Marbles (of youtube fame) and if any of you know who she is and have laughed at her videos than you’ll get what I mean.
On a side note, I wanted to mention that after stumbling across the first two books in this series I did try and listen to the authors other books (sweep series, I think?) and found it WAY to young adult for my taste. Not many YA clichés here.

PLEASE AUDIBLE!!! PLEASE have the LAST BOOK RECORDED!?!

Great Start to a new series

I love Cate Tiernan, her Sweep Series is one of my favorites, this one took a little for me to get into but, now I am hooked. I sure hope the next book in this series comes out soon because I really want to know what happens next!! There wasn’t a huge cliffhanger at the end just kind of a knowing that the story is not done.

I listened to this on audio with narrator Kelly Lintz she was a new narrator for me and I thought she did a really good job and I hope she continues to narrate this series.

Murder, Mystery, Magic & Immortals in rehab, oh my

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! The book is excellent, unique and intriguing that will draw you in from the first chapter until the very last.

The characters were some of my favorite from my recently read books especially Reign.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely! It's very hard to put down.

Any additional comments?

4.5 Stars!

Excellent book with mystery, magic, and super hot immortals in rehab. You may be thinking that this is a semi-strange combo, but it works, trust me.

I listened to this on audible and the narration was wonderful.

I loved all the characters especially Reign. I'm hoping we get to see more action between him and our main character in book 2. I have a feeling it is going to get a bit steamy. I can't wait to start listening to the sequel.

It’s really slow

The story kinda drags on could’ve added more to get people excited about the second book but overall feels like a disappointment compared to the sweep series

Slow

The book starts out slow but As the scene is set and the story starts yes so moving a little faster and a lot more interesting. The book has a good story and shows a person can change and what they learned of themselves from the past can affect a persons life.
