Publisher's summary

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books but we are real.

Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.

But they know.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.

I am Number Four.

I am next.

Also included is a sneak listen to the first chapter of the next book in the series. Enjoy!

Should have been called a Saving Number Four

Good grief this guys life was saved 4 times during the last battle and he gave up on life at least 3 times as well. That got old. The voices the narrator used were borderline ridiculous. Some parts of the book really drug on. I think the story itself is a good story, but it definitely could use some help.

read the book when I was younger

it felt different listening to the book after so many years after reading it. I always wanted to reread the series cuz I never really finish it but I've been way too busy to be able to do that it says listening to a really helped. except for the fact that they called him honoree instead of Henri just really bothered me. other than that it was still a really good book like I remembered from years ago

Napoleon Dynamite

Love the book. However, I swear at every point it is Mark James seakingbit sounds like a Napoleon Dynamite. truly makes it a comedy to me at those points in the book.

Vocal characterization needs improvement

The book itself is as expected, meaning a good young adult sci-fi action plot. Although the book is written for young adults the narrator used vocal animation similar to how a children’s book is is read aloud. The main character and Henri were acceptable. However he exaggerated for most all other characters. It felt disruptive to my focus on the story.

I will say he is well paced and used pauses appropriately. Just sometimes his character vocal choice was either too loud, or too screechy or too monotone depending upon the character.

Enjoyed the Story

I really enjoyed the book. I saw the movie a few years ago so it was a lot of fun to revisit it and get all the extra details that the book has. My only complaint was that the narrator doesn't sound young. He sounds like an older man. Also his choice for some of the characters voices were a little odd. After a while I got used to it though and it didn't really effect the experience too much.

Audiobook

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No I would not.

What was one of the most memorable moments of I Am Number Four?

I didn't get very far with it. The sound of a man trying to speak like a woman ruined the story experience for me. The most memorable was the first time I heard the narrator try to sound like a teenage girl.

Would you be willing to try another one of Neil Kaplan’s performances?

Only if the book didn't have a single female character in it. Or, if they got a woman to speak for the female characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Maybe. But I could certainly read it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

If they got a girl to speak for the female character's in the book, I would have enjoyed this audiobook.

Love this series so much!

Just started this series again. It’s been a while since I last read them all and already I am back into it and ready to read them all back to back! This series will always be one of my all time favorites. It has everything you could want in a fantasy book and if you haven’t read it yet then you’re definitely missing out!

The details you wish were portrayed in the movie

I honestly enjoyed this far more than I expected too,
Although the narration can throw you off at first, it grows on you and adds a humorous charm to the book that now after finishing it, I can’t imagine it being told by anyone differently. The narrator puts so much passion and emotion and emphasis to each character that it truly brings the images to life in your head. This book was everything I hoped to learn from after leaving the movie wanting more from I am number four. now I can happily say that I did the right thing by reading the book so that I can continue the series and find out what happened after the events of the movie and this book laid into the details that left me with questions from the movie and I feel like I understand the whole plot wayyy better. 10/10
