Publisher's summary

Morganville, Texas, is a small college town filled with quirky characters. But when the sun goes down, the bad come out. Because in Morganville, there is an evil that lurks in the darkest shadows---one that will spill out into the bright light of day.

Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. The popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks on the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero. And Claire really doesn't have the right connections---to the undead who run the town. When Claire heads off campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

It’s a late review, but…

I’m actually on the next to last book and I’ll tell you, I wouldn’t continue listening to these books 16 or so, if I didn’t really like it. The camaraderie between the main characters is kinda true to earth. Especially love the Claire & Merman’s relationship & how it grows & how they all have a love/hate relationships with each other.

I can’t wait to see how this little brilliant 16 year old girl grows up to a strong woman who can stand on her own two feet & also help those around her. Long story but I hope that’s how it turns out!

Good with a cliffhanger

I loved the book right up to the last word, until I realized it was a cliffhanger. Four stars due to the ending. Great writing. Fantastic story. Interesting characters and world. If it had stopped a few paragraphs before, I would have felt it was complete. I hate cliffhangers, but so long as you don't mind diving right into the next book (where the ending picks up as the beginning of the next), it is okay. It is definitely NOT a stand alone novel, and the series cannot be read out of order.

Interesting plot!

I am enjoying this series! This is is the first of many books in the Morganville Vampire series. After listening to Glass House, I found that Audible does not currently have books 2-4, so I read them (paperbacks), before downloading Lord of Misrule (book 5). Rachel Caine has put together a very interesting story, and many entertaining characters. When I finished Glass House, I couldn't wait to go on and find out what would happen next. These are listed as YA, and they are, but I am mid-30's and have enjoyed the plot and story very much. :) If you like vampire stories, give Glass House a try!

Unexpected fun read

Where does Glass Houses rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a fun read and I enjoyed it very much.

What other book might you compare Glass Houses to and why?

This ranks high with the other young adult series I've read. The author captures the feelings of a teenager caught between " being and becoming".

Which character – as performed by Cynthia Holloway – was your favorite?

I love the character of Michael who overcomes his own brush with the town vampires and makes the best of his situation.

Any additional comments?

I didn't care for the ending and how it tried to set you up for the next book. Instead of making me want to read the next in the series, it left me feeling, " trying to hard", and left me off the next book totally.

Massively Fun Novel, but Read it vs. Listen

Would you listen to Glass Houses again? Why?

I actually read this book years ago when it first came out, and I adored it then so decided to listen to the audio version. Really bad idea. While I still enjoyed the story, especially as I forgot some parts of it, the narrator almost had me putting it aside. The tone and inflections in the voice was totally off for me, and that actually has me not wanting to listen to any more books in this series, which really sucks as, again, I did enjoy them years ago. I'm **ahem** older now, and I will also say that a lot of the book did feel slightly juvenile to me now versus back in the day. But it's still a fun book/series, and I do recommend it, just steer clear of the audio version if you want to actually give the Morganville series a fighting chance.

Its great for YA but not wasn't my bag is all

I believe the storyline is different than some vampire novels and the characters were interesting and the narration good so it was easy to keep listening too. I am not going further in the series as books 2-4 are not available via Audible but not sure I would have anyway. I believe this book perfect for those 16+ would have liked a little more bite on character development but without reading book two not sure if the author was just alluding and keepin' it interesting.

great story if you can put up with the narrator

I love the book, hate the narrator. She is trying to sound breezy but comes off like this is pissed and bored and then now and then she does some good narrating so that you keep listening. All in all great book though.

Great Series- Need a better narrator

These books are somewhat of a comfort series for me. Read them in high school. Was absolutely obsessed and tore through every single one. The narrator left A LOT to be desired. Especially while reading for Shane and Michael. The voices. I couldn’t stand it. Could not stop cringing during the scene when Oliver tries to attack the Glass House…the awkward whisper yell delivery of lines was the absolute WORST. I’ll stick to print versions of these books going forward.

Interesting start

I love Rachel Caine. Her weather warden series was amazing. This was definitely an interesting start to the series. A lot of reveals that were kinda obvious but still very fun. The cliffhanger was an interesting choice though.

Looking for what’s next

I’ve definitely like this book and the ending is the exact reason I’m starting the next one now.
