"A splendidly rousing feast." (Booklist)
"This is smooth storytelling and a satisfying read." (School Library Journal)
I loved all the charactors in the book. Found myself listening to it twice because I tend to miss areas while working. I purchased the second in the series as soon as I was done, and I'm now on the forth in the series.
I really love this book and series, but miss Full-Cast Audio just as much. The narrator does make voices terribly, I had trouble telling characters apart, and the 10 year old heroine has a deeper voice than many of the male characters, even older ones. However, she does read pretty smoothly, and I didn't notice any pronunciation problems.
This book is another great entry in the Tortall Universe. The story is a great intro, but not the best. It does an awesome job of establishing and developing new characters who grow with the story. If you like any of Tamora Pierce's other books then you will love this one!
Growing up I was more into outside games so when we moved to Montana where it was freezing cold I found myself inside with nothing to do. A friend gave me this book and I have loved it ever since.
Tamora Pierce continues to be fantastic reading for pre-teen and teen girls everywhere. Bernadette Dunn has an American accent but is clear to listen to. Can we have more of the back catalogue of Pierce's books soon, please?
