Publisher's summary

Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still.

When 16-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Great Book, Not So Keen On Narrator

Great book, another great addition to the Immortal Instruments (Infernal Devices is a spin-off of the Immortal Instruments). I personally would have enjoyed this book more had it not been for the narrator's portrayal of some of the characters who's voices literally were slower than molasses.

Dreadful Narrator

Wow. The story was good but I mean- the narrator is dreadful , no emotion in her voice , screeches the almost entire audiobook and sounds like she has a nasal infection and a cold the entire time.

Glad I finally listened to this one

I know this is a highly-read series and I am trying to work through my TBR mountain (or in the case of audiobooks, should that be TBLT for "to be listened to"?). Anyway, I was surprised that I did not immediately glam on to some of the plot twists as I do with many books that are primarily meant for young adults.

The narration was quite good and although I tire of the love triangle trope, I want to continue the series. There are still many secrets being kept by the main characters.

a swell read, worth it for some thing new

the story was a decent one, not the greatest but good enough for entertainment. the biggest qualm was it didn't draw me in with the characters enough. a few twists although predictable but nice.

overall worth looking into, the "cliff hanger" in the epilogue doesn't draw me in enough to get the next book but perhaps on a second venture thru it may.

Great Story

Excellent story. I would highly recommend it to anyone, old and young alike. Jennifer Ehle did an excellent job as the narrator. She brought Tessa to life for me. I had a hard time adjusting to the change in narrators for the second book. Ehle is definitely a great actress and can convey so much emotion with just her voice.

Cassandra Clare's characters are unique and the relationships between them are just as interesting as the underlying plot of this and the following two books in the series.. Once I started listening to this book, I had a hard time stopping. I found myself carrying my phone around with me so I could keep listening. I ended up reading the final book in the series, "The Clockwork Princess" because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen.

Great expansion of Cassandra Clare's world

Would you consider the audio edition of Clockwork Angel to be better than the print version?

I have loved audio stories since I was a small child. Ehle is an expressive actor and her voice was a great match to the setting and the mix of characters.

Would you recommend Clockwork Angel to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend Clockwork Angel to others. It is a great escape, with enough mix of fantasy and human interactions that you feel free from your own life but still relate to the people and the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked the moment where Will's control completely slips. Those moments happen so infrequently in life that there is something very personal about it. It was that moment, along with the questions to be answered and fondness of the characters that made me want to hear more. Tessa and Will don't have the same ache of connection despite separation that is established with Clary and Jace in TMI (especially City of Ashes and City of Glass), but they have an intensity that reflect the depth of emotion and connection that Clare can convey to her readers.

Definitely a must read for YA, Historical Romance

If you could sum up Clockwork Angel in three words, what would they be?

Interesting. Fantastic. Amazing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare blew me away! I had read The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones last year but I was let down after all the hype and I did not continue reading the series. However, one of my co-workers told me that I would LOVE Clockwork Angel because it is not contemporary but historical.

Any additional comments?

Narrator Jennifer Ehle brings a lovely tone to this book. Not sounding really British or American, her ambiguous voice adds an air of mystery to the story. The different voices that she uses between characters are done well that I don’t find annoying. Her pace and cadence set a wonderful fast paced tone where I wanted to listen to the whole book in one sitting.
