Enjoyable characterizations and good voices for several of the key players.

Loved this fairytale version

At first reading the summary I was a bit hesitant at buying this book. But after reading several of the reviews, I took a chance. Then another one on the second book and again on the third. Now I can't wait for the next installment!

For those who love the Cinderella story, this one has a total spin on the story and so far, I like this version compared to the other versions of Cinderella. The cruelty of the stepmother and stepsister is consistent with the exception of the younger stepsister who actually has a fondness for Cinder. Instead of mice as companions, she has a very animated android that in some parts made me wish I had one and other made me want to hit her power off button.

Would I listen to this again? Yes. I don't think I can read the book because it wouldn't be the same as hearing it.

A Worthy Successor

I know that many fo Cinderella stories have been written over the years, but for me this is my favourite.

For the critical reader then, be warned that I am not being very partial as I write and that my weakness for romance has most certainly biased me towards this story.

what I liked :
The character of Cinder had much one could relate to, her role being that of the justified underdog and the author did a very good job of exploiting this point. It is where I bonded most with Cinder. That sense of self righteousness is addictive, though admittedly not advisable in every case.

The author's use of the future setting comfortable and well rounded. Many writers, in an attempt to draw in the sci-fi crowd ring their world's dry. This was not the case here.

What I didn't like:
While the world was well crafted it did seem just slightly simplistic, mostly early on in the book.

I don't have a lot bad to say about this book. To be honest I couldn't put it down.
My advice, at least try it. Its not this reader's opinion you'll regret it.

Ever After meets Ex Machina

Any additional comments?

The only reason I downloaded this book was because I knew I would get a refund once I realized it was a huge golden turd. Then I started listening, and the narrators voice had me on the cusp of stopping. But then an odd thing happened, I was listening and I found myself chuckling out loud... while I was at work! Although this book is obviously geared toward the young-adult, (Twilight) generation, and there was some serious pandering to the "Im a misunderstood wallflower who is waiting for her prince to come along and see the hidden jewel that I am on the inside" genre, there wasn't so much nonsense that I wanted to roll my eyes every five minuets. The plot was pretty predictable but was still interesting enough for me to keep following along. The storyline was a combination of fairy tale and sci-fi, and melded together in a way that felt like an old familiar friend but one you had not seen in a year or two and now has purple hair. I will be reading the next book as soon as my credits are renewed.

Original concept, excellent execution

This is one of the most original concepts in modern Sci Fi that I have encountered in a while. It is most definitely "chic lit" in the sense that it is character driven, with female characters and a fair bit of concern for emotional and romantic pursuits, but at the same time, the tech and science of the world is front and center in a way that reminds me a little bit of Neal Stephenson's older works like Diamond Age or Snow Crash.

The title character, Cinder, is so fabulously real and believable, and right from the start I really cared her complex struggles.

The whole thing is a little bit comically over the top, like some cyberpunk manga cartoon, but that's ok, because the world is so rich and vivid.

So good

I went through this book SO FAST. Tension, stakes performance, story, it has it all. This one has been in my library for over a year and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to listen.

The perfect story

Such a beautifully written story line. The perfect combo of out of this world and the classic fairy tale of Cinderella.
