Publisher's summary

Callis Rose is a girl blessed with a gift from above or cursed with a ruthless power she barely understands; it's really just a matter of degrees. As her family life is turned asunder she is thrown into an indifferent Social Services program where she defends herself the only way she knows how.

Callis is moved from home to home until she finally settles at the Lowries. As she starts her first day of high school she meets both her favorite and least favorite person. Both happen to be part of the same household. Mindy Denton makes it her single mission in life to destroy Callis, even as her brother, Kevin, falls deeper into love with the mysterious and beautiful girl who is hiding something from them all.

Tufo holds back the Zombies & tries something new

If you could sum up Callis Rose in three words, what would they be?

Professor X as a teenage girl.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Callis Rose?

The family circumstances that launched Callis on her road through the system.

Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, it is just as good as his other works. I was worried since this is from a female perspective, but he did really well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wish I had the time but had to break it up over three days.

Any additional comments?

Mark Tufo is amazing, keep writing!

Brilliant story and great a narration performance by Sean Runnette.

Callis Rose was my favorite character because I could relate to what she went through.

First time I've listened to a Sean Runnette narration but certainly won't be the last. Great job.

The book kept me interested from start to finish and I found it hard to put it down.

Tufo knows how to write

Another great book from Mark Tufo. While different from his Mike Talbot stories, he does a great job creating the characters and weaving an interesting story.

A good listen, went by too fast

I really liked this book and the narrator. I enjoy a story where the main character is neither good nor bad, black or white, but grey. Callis' struggles between good and crazy and the ending (no spoiler) was sad, but really the best way to end this type of story. The preppy girls were a bit stereotypical and some of the situations a bit extreme, I think the writer wanted to imply that Callis draws in the extreme, but they didn't really get into that. I don't remember if this was a young reader book or not, but there is some language and some graphic material and I am not sure how young would be ok to read it, I guess I read Flowers in the Attic when I was young and I am only mildly scared for life!

Amazing as usual!!!

Tufo is easily on my top five best writers list. Combining the imagination of Tufo and smooth voice of Runnette was brilliant. Will not listen to any other combo. Love the complexity and military humor of Tufo. In the process of reading all his book series.
