Publisher's summary

Life as a ship's boy aboard HMS Dolphin is a dream come true for Jacky Faber. Gone are the days of scavenging for food and fighting for survival on the streets of 18th-century London. Instead, Jacky is becoming a skilled and respected sailor as the crew pursues pirates on the high seas. There's only one problem: Jacky is a girl. And she will have to use every bit of her spirit, wit, and courage to keep the crew from discovering her secret. This could be the adventure of her life...if only she doesn't get caught.
Listen to the sequel, Curse of the Blue Tattoo.

Loved this book!

Best narration ever! I couldn't get enough! The narrator became the character. This was a super story and I can't wait to get the next one.

Bloody Jack - Bloody Good!!

Where does Bloody Jack rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It must rank pretty high considering there are 10 books and I've purchased/listened to every one...

What did you like best about this story?

Unpredictability, always a new adventure you think you know what'll happen, and more often than not, you don't.

What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voices were just entertaining, amusing, varied and fun to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Even though this was classified as Young Adult reading, I'm 64 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good - after the first 45 minutes

Quite an enjoyable read after you get into the meat of the story. The first 45 minutes are a bit slow and uncomfortable as it's about orphans suffering in the streets, but after that it's a fun sea-going tale. Also, excellent narration.

Not just for young adults.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Well written, old fashion yarn with pathos, humor, danger and villainy. The sailor that goes after Jack in the rope locker took the story out of the realm for older children, 11-13 but a teen could manage the ramifications of the antagonists, Bliffil and Sloat. The performance was excellent. One of audible’s best.

Perfect combination of author and reader!

Would you consider the audio edition of Bloody Jack to be better than the print version?

Much, although well written, Ms. Kellgren's masterful narration brings the characters alive.

Any additional comments?

So much fun. I felt l learned much about the time and the culture on a sailing vessel. Worth more than 1 credit for sure.

Story is lacking

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The narration was brilliant but, I found the story just wasn't compelling enough to continue the series
