Where does Beauty Queens rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a very interesting listening experience, a good listen, well written to keep your interest. The book was a fun listen!!!

Cute and Light

The beginning of the story is quite cute, unfortunately, it becomes old pretty fast. There's not much explanation for how giant snakes turned up or some of the other "odd" happenings as the beauty queens roam the island after a plane crash. If you need something light and funny for the first 30 minutes, this will do it for you.

So funny I had to get it in print!

This isn't my usual listen, but a pen friend suggested it in one of her letters. I enjoyed the performance, but the weird Tiara snippets between chapters intrigued me to pickup a print copy of the book. I haven't seen any extra footnotes so I'm not sure why those were edited in. Otherwise, and enjoyable and humorous listen!

Hilarious!

This novel is hilarious and the audiobook does it justice. One of the best audiobooks I've listened to.

Satire with class

What made the experience of listening to Beauty Queens the most enjoyable?

Libba Bray deserves an award for giving each character a unique voice. Each state represented in this book is highlighted by taking for example slang used in Texas into the character Taylor from the lone star state. In addition the book is not a simple Youth book,it makes fun of beauty queens,IQ, and chick-lit. How this could or can be seen as a book for young teens is beyond me. It is satirical on every page laughing at the many teen obsessions it covers. The language is not P.G… I wish Libba wrote "Love unscripted" she would nail it. The genre is so her.

Yes, too sad she does not read the others herself.

When Petra shares her secret.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when the girls decided to back Petra.

This is a great listen for those days when beauty magazines fail, you need to relax etc

Loved that the Author narrated the book!

Hilarious, entertaining, great characters. I usually don't like when there are too many story lines, but I loved getting to know all the girls and their backgrounds. The author doing the narration was great and I thought really added to the book!

The fact that the girls started out being superficial, and ended up being heroes.

She is a very talented voice performer.

It made me laugh.

My daughter recommended this book to me-- I suspect it was partly to get me off her back about her appearance.

Fun, light reading. 'Popcorn' reading.

Not the most deep or inspiring reading, but it is fun and interesting. I was never bored, that's for sure.

cute idea, execution lags

Author narrators are not usually too great. Libba Bray does a very good job with her book as a narrator, she just did not excel as an author this time. Great idea but too many characters to keep straight. Too many plot lines that peter out, too many characters who are shallow stereotypes in a book that is supposedly celebrating girls who do not fit the beauty queen stereotype. Funny spots make it bearable and the sex humor makes it senior high.

Satire not my bag but I did like this!

Wow, I read this awhile ago and just remember it was enjoyable to listen to and done with a lot of wit.
