Publisher's summary

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her 17-year-old sister, Penryn, will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where Penryn will risk everything to rescue her sister, and Raffe will put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

Critic reviews

"Ee’s debut novel is a promising opener to what looks to be a YA series worth following, one that explores what it means to be human and what it means to be a hero." ( Locus Magazine)

great concept, decent execution

What did you like best about Angelfall? What did you like least?

I Really like the concept of the angels and their politics.

I strongly disliked the "predictable, tortured, lovestruck teenage heroine"

If you’ve listened to books by Susan Ee before, how does this one compare?

this was my first

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

the narration was pretty good. I hated the characters rather than the narrator, so that's points for her... a bad narrator is when you remember it's a narrator.

Could you see Angelfall being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really. the lead character is way too predictable to be interesting on a screen. Maybe if Lifetime decided to do a scifi movie, this would be perfect!

Any additional comments?

As you can probably tell, my main gripe with this book is the main character. She's your typical teenage girl heroine who everyone is always exclaiming is courageous, even though she's often cowering and on the verge of tears.... I may finish this series if I can stand her long enough.... The angels though! I kinda wish we could just follow them and leave her love-sick story as a secondary tangent.

3.5 Stars. Interesting in a Twilight...

3.5 Stars. Interesting in a "Twilight" sort of way. YA romance with much older men (yet they don't look older). Tragic yet beautiful hero & heroine. Very Good Reader.

Good Story Line "Why did Angels Attack Humanity"

Would you listen to Angelfall again? Why?

No, To many other good books to read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Raffe, Not as powerful as a real Arch Angel though.

What does Caitlin Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She delivers it with Enthusiasm and An Energy that makes the story more exciting.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, Absolutely...

Any additional comments?

The author should have done more research of Angels (Read Enoch) to better understand the exceptional power and majesty of the Angels. One angel killed 186,000 warriors in less than a day. And is fast enough to circle the earth in just minutes.

3.5 stars. Good, not great.

I love teen Dystopia. Most are good enough to keep me interested. Few are great. This falls in the former category. A couple things had me rolling my eyes a little (too simplistic or too overeager), but I got past it. Character development is ok. There isn't anything outstanding about Penryn or Rafe to make me LOVE them. And at this point, we don't know WHY the Angels have descended upon earth to destroy or harm us. Rafe doesn't even know why. And why do they hate us so much? We are just Monkeys to them. I'm hoping this will be explained by book 2. This story got great reviews and most seemed to love it. I'm a little more than "meh" on this. Just enough to want to find out more. But I have no qualms about abandoning the series if book 2 does not improve. I have way too many books in my TBR to waste my time on so-so.

A good read...

It was an ok book. Didn't have to force myself to finish. At times I was rather bored or not as attentive. I am curious about the characters and storyline. Will eventually read book 2.

Angels v Humans

YA first-book-in-a-series tale with a well done HFN non-cliffhanger ending that leaves unresolved plot lines.
Angels (Raphael & Gabriel and the gang) have taken over the earth, resulting in many dead humans. Young woman heroine sets off to rescue her disabled younger sister and batszo Mom from angels. She gets very reluctant aid from an angel shorn of his wings.
Chaos follows along the quest. I don't know if I will buy the sequel.

Great beginning

Good beginning to the trilogy. Love the world and kick ass hero who doesn't shy away from danger but also is realistic.
