Publisher's summary

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her 17-year-old sister, Penryn, will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where Penryn will risk everything to rescue her sister, and Raffe will put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

Critic reviews

"Ee’s debut novel is a promising opener to what looks to be a YA series worth following, one that explores what it means to be human and what it means to be a hero." ( Locus Magazine)

More Please

What did you love best about Angelfall?

I loved the story and how it was more an adventure then a romance not many books do that and it was nice surprise. it had everything that I love in books humor, traveling, and a smartass character.

What other book might you compare Angelfall to and why?

I can't think of one which isn't a bad thing.

Which scene was your favorite?

the camp is one of my favorite part and that's for the twins. they remind me so much of the Weasley twins that I laughed every time they where mentioned. Also when Penryn got it that fight with that jerk was awesome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but unfortunately sleep usually wins in the end.

Any additional comments?

if you enjoy humorous books about fallen angels, apocalypse, survival, revenge, and not speedy love then you need to read this book.

Post-Apocalyptic YA

Pretty good writing and solid narration. I liked the characters. The story was interesting enough to purchase the other two books in the series to find out what happened.

Sort of interesting…

It was a sort of interesting story and the reader does a very good job. But is wasn’t interesting enough for me to go on to book 2 in the series.

Pleasantly surprised!

I'm so weary of starting a new series like this, I've looked at this book several times and passed it over several times, but I finally decided to give it a try today. I finished it today. I couldn't put it down. I loved all of the characters and I loved the subtle romance, and honestly while I kind of figured out the plot with Paige early it was still so exciting to hear it unfold. I hate it when the author chooses a stupid name for the main character and honestly the makes me not want to read a book.. I don't know if anyone else is that way.. I'm so glad I listened to this one though. I just downloaded the second book and I'm about to start it now. Don't pass this one up!

Peryn & Raffe versus Everyone else

This book featured a family trying to remain hidden during a post apocalyptic time, when there was so much chaos and lawlessness. The family consisted of a mother and 2 daughters, Peryn and Paige, sixteen and seven (I think). Peryn's mother suffered from schizoprenia, and now due to the state of society, she was off her routine medication. Paige was wheelchair bound due to an accident when she was 2 years old. Thus Peryn was the responsible adult of the family.

During an encounter with some angels, Paige was kidnapped and Peryn swore to get her back from the angels. In order to find out where Paige was taken, Peryn rescued an injured angel named Raffe and held him hostage until he agreed to help her discover Paige's location. Raffe is an angel who was attacked by fellow angels and left for dead. The rest of the story is comprised of the journey that Peryn and Raffe embarked on, to restore Peryn's family and Raffe's quest to get revenge against his attackers.

An enjoyable and engaging story. The writing was vivid and gripping. I really like the addition of mental illness and disability to this story. I also like the loyalty and steadfastness which seemed to be cornerstone of Peryn's character. How hard it must have been for Peryn to be responsible for an adult and a child, while living in her own fear. Very powerful for those of us familiar with mental illness. I also enjoyed the gradual thawing of the angel Raffe. He definitely had to war against his nature to assist Peryn and the struggle made for great tension between Raffe and Peryn. I do hope they grow her up before they take the relationship further.
I look forward to the next book.

Way better than anticipated.

I enjoyed this book, it had lots of events happening, but not to many to confuse you. While there are a few plot holes, which hopefully will be explained in the next book, this book did grab me from the beginning and kept me interested all the way through. I do plan on getting the next book. I wish they would have explained why the Angels came down for the end days, but I don't think that Penryn knew either. I would say this book is geared more for teenagers, but if you are like me I read and listen to everything. There are so many dystopia books out there now and not all of them good, but this one is pretty good, so give it a try if you like these types of books. I would recommend Suzanne Collin's Hunger Games, Kresley Cole's Arcana Chronicles, or Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles. I liked the narrator, she does a good job.

Dark and Gritty! So Good!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Angelfall to be better than the print version?

I'm not sure! ...I'm sure both would be amazing.

What other book might you compare Angelfall to and why?

Nothing can compare to this craziness in this book.

Any additional comments?

What the heck? Did all that just really happen? That is THE craziest ending EVER! Seriously…THAT was insane!

When I first started Angelfall, I sensed that it might be a really dark book because it seemed very grim. And, as I got further into the story, things just got insanely crazy. Angelfall is one of those types of books that make you wonder if you’ll have crazy dreams or even nightmares after reading. But even during the most insane moments…moments that should have had me totally freaking-out…Susan Ee had a way of writing them so they weren’t quite as disturbing as they could, and probably should, have been. I haven’t figured out how these brilliant authors are able to do that, but she did it brilliantly well.

The characters are very well done in this book. I really liked and admired the main character Penryn, and I pretty much grew attached to Raffe from the moment he was introduced. But it was Penryn’s mother who was the most fascinating. I want to know if she really is psycho, or if she really has demons controlling her. The things that woman does throughout the book are both disturbing and comical.

There’s not much more I want to say about Angelfall other than it’s a really small book and a very quick read, I would highly recommend it and I'm dying for the next book in the series.
