continues to be a really fun and kinda different story

Dragon arrogance galore and I love it. Although it's starting to become a bit more tempered in this book. Lots of progression too although I'm wondering how long this series is gonna be as the progression happens in pretty big chunks and on paper it either has to slow down or unknown paths forward need to open up - otherwise the pinnacle will be reached in a few books.

The slow burn romance also took a big step forward. I did feel like it was a bit "unearned" as I hoped it would be less magical transformation and more Cammie winning Nico over. Even though it was a long shot I was kinda shipping Nico and the princess priestess which as of this book is more or less off the table entirely. I wonder if that was in response to others feeling the same way and the author proactively shutting it down.

Many big reveals and implications that are exciting to see unfold later. One particular thing happened and was never really addressed so I wonder if this is gonna be a thing that'll be ignored until it eventually blows up or becomes relevant.

In any case, the narrator really captures the personality of the characters especially Nico. Generally I prefer dual narration for romance and that doubles when we get actual female POV chapters and there are more interludes with more POVs than ever in this book (or at least it felt that way). With that being said, I really enjoy his performance and there are no flaws to speak of. I'm certainly looking forward to the fourth book.

story, world, and Nico are amazing, but one fear...

this is one of the best dragon book series I've ever read. most have the dragon written in a way that makes them seem almost human, in mannerisms or ethics or whatever, a "human in a dragon suit" sort of thing, but Nico is very obviously not human, in the way he thinks and acts, and it is very refreshing.

even though he has to be hidden away in human form for most of the book, it's forgivable because he doesn't act completely human still, and at times he yearns to be in his true form, saying he "feels cramped", and whatnot.

the story is a great power fantasy, and feels great to read and imagine a powerful dragon flexing on everyone.

my one fear comes with Cammy. she's an ok partner for Nico, but I hate how lovey dovey and jealous she gets. I would like to see Nico get close to another dragon but I feel she won't allow that.

it might not be that bad if I got the feeling she would become a dragon for him, but at one point she mentions that she likes his human form better, and so I worry the author might put Nico on a path of "being human ain't so bad" so that he can be with her if he eventually falls for her. I'd hate that

Ohhhh man! soooooooo good! I love Nico the dragon!

Ohhhh, man this book was soooooooo good that I started regretting that Tail Smash wasn't longer. This happened long before I got to the end. And even though it had a perfectly acceptable ending I wished for more words, as in where's book4? I need bk4 now! And although I love Neil Hellegers (he's the best Nico, evarrr) I'll be hard pressed to wait the 2 extra months it'll take for the release of audio version!!! This will be totally doable as I can read it twice!
In this book Nico is not only growing in size as he advances into his adult body, while relying on Cami his bonded rider. But he’s also growing in character as he's starting to grow in mind too. Exploring the new understanding of the world he’s in.
So yeah grab the book and discover Nico's new insights.

Here's a couple of quotes that I found amusing:

"His bowels clenched up so tight he could have made diamonds, and all around him he saw hands shaking."

“No… don’t take it badly. You can’t help what you were born as. You can still be useful.

Continuing to build a great series!!

Enjoying the series. Glad I jumped on all the books during sale. The key is to keep full series titles in wishlist of favorite authors and narrators.
