Publisher's summary

Strongheart is the final installment to the One Thousand White Women trilogy, a novel about fierce women who are full of heart and the power to survive.

In 1873, a Cheyenne chief offers President Grant the opportunity to exchange one thousand horses for one thousand White women, in order to marry them with his warriors and create a lasting peace. These women, "recruited" by force in the penitentiaries and asylums of the country, gradually integrate the way of life of the Cheyenne, at the time when the great massacres of the tribes begin.

After the battle of Little Big Horn, some female survivors decide to take up arms against the United States, which has stolen from the Native Americans their lands, their way of life, their culture and their history. This ghost tribe of rebellious women will soon go underground to wage an implacable battle, which will continue from generation to generation.

In this final volume of the One Thousand White Women trilogy, Jim Fergus mixes with rare mastery the struggle of women and Native Americans in the face of oppression, from the end of the 19th century until today. With a vivid sense of the 19th century American West, Fergus paints portraits of women as strong as they are unforgettable.

Couldn't Put It Down

I kept thinking the book was ending, but thankfully a new chapter would begin, picking up on a new strand if the story. This writing, teamed with recent current history, gives me a lot to ponder. Why do we treat other cultures and others different from us as we do? What makes us feel we are superior? What makes violence a viable choice for settling differences? What do we really know about this world?

Puzzled

I loved the first and second books of the series; this one however took a turn into fantasy. The writing was long-winded, and repetitive. Which I anticipated from other reviewers, but I had to know how it ended. This last book has left an odd uneasy, unsettling feeling. Nice to see May get a happy ending, or at least I hope so. I appreciate the author giving attention to how many Native America women go missing every year. This last book buttons up some ends in a very imaginative way.

Please write another

To the author to please write another book, but this one delving into how they go about the strong hearts saving the girls that have been captured and delving into that whole side of things. I would love to hear more about how they go about saving them making a difference and making people aware of the discrepancies of no awareness by society to do anything to protect these Native American women who don’t deserve this treatment don’t deserve to be ignored.

The Best True Story Ever

The best true story ever written. The performance on audible was phenomenal.
I knew an end had to come, however, I dreaded when it did.
Thank you Jim Fergus, and Narrators- Erik Steele and Laura Hicks. Magnificent!

Wonderful end for a wonderful series

This is the 3rd and last, to my dismay, of the series. This is a wonderful book and series and in my opinion should be mandatory reading for all high school students and anyone else who enjoys history along with romance. I can not say how much I have really enjoyed this work. 🙏🏼♥️

Highly Recommend This Series

I've listened to all 3 stories, and I have to say that they are all VERY good! The first and the last are my favorite, probably because May Dodd was introduced as the main character in book 1, and she wasn't there in book 2. So glad she returned! I wish I could read another story that reveals her life AFTER! I wonder what she changed her name to? Did she marry that cowboy? Did she have more children? Just questions I'd like to read in a sequel!

Review

I've listened to the audible versions of all 3 books. This one was confusing, for me there were too many questions left unanswered. The other 2 kept me interested but this one wasn't as good. The narration was good both male and female.
