Publisher's summary

USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and ECPA Best Seller

The author of Radical takes listeners on a soul-searching journey through impoverished villages in the Himalayan mountains, daring them to make a difference in a world of urgent need, starting right where they live.

“Grippingly vulnerable and unforgettable. I could not put this book down.” (Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts)

While leading a team on a week-long trek of the Himalayas, best-selling author and pastor David Platt was stunned by the human needs he encountered, an experience so dramatic that it "changed the trajectory of my life". Meeting a man who'd lost his eye from a simple infection and seeing the faces of girls stolen from their families and trafficked in the cities, along with other unforgettable encounters, opened his eyes to the people behind the statistics and compelled him to wrestle with his assumptions about faith. In Something Needs to Change, Platt invites listeners to come along on both the adventure of the trek, as well as the adventure of seeking answers to tough questions like, "Where is God in the middle of suffering?" "What makes my religion any better than someone else's religion?" and "What do I believe about eternal suffering?" Platt has crafted an irresistible message about what it means to give your life for the gospel - to finally stop talking about faith and truly start living it.

Praise for Something Needs to Change

“Rugged. Authentic. Gritty. Real. Worshipful. There are no other books like this one. I always pick up David’s books with a sense of excitement and, quite honestly, apprehension - because I know that areas of compromise and complacency in my life are going to be exposed. But this book exceeded even my high expectations, for which I am grateful. And so will you be. As David writes, it’s time to run, not walk. Let’s go.” (J. D. Greear, president of the Southern Baptist Convention)

“Extraordinary and challenging. I’ve just never read a book like this before. I am so moved. Bring your full heart to this story and watch how God opens your eyes, changes your mind, and broadens the dreams you have for your life.” (Annie F. Downs, best-selling author of 100 Days to Brave and Remember God)

“If you dare to read this book, you might just have an unexpected encounter with Jesus that leaves you weeping on the floor, as David’s experience did. Something changes within us when the seemingly overwhelming needs of the world present themselves simply in the life of a single person. Ultimately, I pray your compassion will be transformed to action.” (Santiago “Jimmy” Mellado, president and CEO of Compassion International)

Amazing Life changing book

This is a must read! If you want to take the gospel serious, read this book. This book challenged me to take an honest reflection of my Christian life and determine what changes I need to make to live out the gospel.

The performance by the author made it all the more special. You can hear the heart, passion, and agony in the voice of the author as he narrates this book. It’s perfect.

Yes, something does need to change

The way we do church, our attitude toward the destitute, our apathy toward the lost, our priorities, our selfishness, and our blindness to the desperate need of the world to hear the gospel. All this needs to change.

If you are not motivated to change after reading this clarion call to action, you seriously need to check your spiritual pulse.

Life chaging

Change begins when we assess the direction towards self-gratification no longer fulfills. Daily accepting of God's purpose to live for eternal treasures is what this book reveals.

After the Bible this is in my top 5 books of all times.

David Platt Masterfully treks with you along the Himalayas of the heights of mountain tops and the depths of human sinfulness. Through this engaging story Platt exposes the needs of the unreached as he vulnerably shares the struggles he faces while hiking in the Himalayas. Not only the needs but also some inspirational individuals being used by God to share Gods love both through Gospel proclamation and meeting peoples physical and temporary needs like freedom, food, water, medication and education. This book will challenge you as Pastor Platt asks himself and in turn you what it is that needs to change?

Heartfelt plea to give your life for the unreached

I especially loved the audio version of this book. David Platt reads with the full emotion that he would bring to Annie sermon or conversation. I have spent time in India, not exactly where plat traveled for this book, but close enough to have witnessed the depths of poverty – both spiritual and physical – that he describes. It was a great reminder that we must not slide into the comfort of our western life while so much of the world hangs on the edge of eternity. This would be a great read with your children too.

Outstanding, spiritual journey

David Platts is spellbinding, and as he reads it, it expands it into further dimensions. I doubt anyone can get through this book and not removed and think about the people that need help and how we can help them. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is spiritual or wants to become more spiritual thank you for this book, Ken Kinkel.
