Publisher's summary

The girl’s head is bent as if in prayer, her hands bound tightly together at the wrist. Her bare feet are still against the cold sand, the last thing she ever felt before she breathed her last....

When the body of a teenage girl is found in Rydal Falls’ churchyard, Detective Morgan Brookes abandons her own birthday to attend the scene. In the dim evening light, Morgan can just make out the girl wrapped in a pristine white sheet and is certain she’s been left here for them to find.

The autopsy identifies the girl as 16-year-old Shea Wilkinson, and Morgan’s heart cracks with sorrow. The beautiful teenager has been missing for weeks; could she have been suffering all this time? When she learns the sand on Shea’s feet is from a nearby island, Morgan leaves immediately, determined to find the killer’s hiding place and stop them in their tracks.

But scouring the windswept beach, Morgan can’t find any sign that Shea was ever there. And then her phone rings with devastating news. Another girl has gone missing: a young nurse named Milly with the same blonde hair and blue eyes as Shea.

Morgan won’t rest until she has returned the kind, cheerful girl to her distraught parents. But Milly was last seen chatting to one of Morgan’s colleagues on the force.... Refusing to think the worst, can she trace the clues and get inside the mind of the most cunning killer of her career, before another innocent life is lost?

Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan, and Rachel Abbott.

another stellar book...and audio performance!

I'm hooked on this series and eagerly waded into this book upon its release. The body of a young girl is found in the church cemetery...the new minister is a bit mysterious...then a young girl from the senior home across the street goes missing. As Morgan and team rush to find the girl, the new DCI is intent on tearing them apart. This case tests the restraint and relationships of DI Ben Matthews' team...especially after losing one of their own. So much happening in this book...trust me, you WILL want to have yourself a listen!

Good book, but a little predictable

At first, I didn’t like the raspiness of the narrators voice, but quickly got into the story and it became tolerable. Overall I liked the story, but found it to be a bit predictable in the end.

Well done

This is the seventh book in the Morgan Brookes series and it’s a good one. The narration of the audiobook was also very good.

Brilliant as always

Great story and continuation of the series. The characters are strong and extremely likeable and overall a good old fashion crime story

Love the series, but...

I really enjoy this series and all of the mess Morgan gets herself in. However, if a real person is going to be referenced in a fictional book, please at least get their name right. BTK is Dennis RadER - not RadAR. Every time Morgan says his name it irritates me. This is something so easy to verify.

eh ending not explained very well

Not the greatest of endings, though the book was more exciting than most of the others in the series. Should have had one more chapter to explain deeper into the regular storyline.

It’s getting hard to listen to these

The storylines are getting progressively worse - but the biggest issue is the characters.

Ben is a bumbling idiot, and Morgan is a naive, oblivious child. She doesn’t as much “solve” crimes as she stumbles directly into the middle of things out of sheer stupidity and luck.

And the plot twists of “everyone is involved; everyone is suspicious” are getting reeeeeally old.

I want to like this series, I really do. But I just can’t.
