Publisher's summary

No matter how much money, status, professional success, or other types of external security one may have, very few people experience true joy and personal freedom. Byron Katie knows this reality too well. In the midst of a "normal and successful" life, Katie became increasingly depressed, and over a ten-year period sank further into rage and despair.

Then, one morning in 1986, out of the blue, she had a sudden, profound insight into how the mind works. As a result, a bedridden, suicidal woman became filled with love for everything life brings. Katie developed a simple yet powerful method of inquiry, called The Work, that helped make this transformation practical.

In this program, you will learn how to use The Work for yourself. You'll discover that, contrary to popular belief, trying to let go of a painful thought never works; instead, once you have investigated it, the thought lets go of you. The Work's four powerful questions and turnaround (which is a way of experiencing the opposite of what you believe) have transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world.

In Your Inner Awakening Byron Katie will teach you this revolutionary process so that you can use it to question and undo any stressful thought that keeps you from experiencing mental clarity. Eventually you may find, as so many others have, that peace and joy flow into every area of your life.

Living in my mind is stressful

I have read several books by Katie and this is the one that I can say"I get it!". Now I just examine my thoughts the way Katie teaches and I have no (real) problems/stress.

Better than her "Loving What Is" book

I am a woman sitting here, feeling blessed. The last Chapter takes Love to a deeper level than 1 Corinthians 13 for me coming from a Christian background.

Two things about this book were "better" for me than her wonderful "Loving What Is" book. First, the actual voices of people doing the work with Katie. Second, it seemed like this book had a more concise discussion of the various topics for the work -- like relationships or seeking approval.

Excellent information, simple, direct and relevent

I have read and listened to many self-help books over the past 20+ years and this one seems to hit many issues at their core. I have recommended it to many and have given it to each of my children as well as my mother. The author seems genuine, comes from a place of having been through a lot and tells us what got her to realize the origin her pain. I like how the information is arranged, moving between the author's reflective moments and live audience interaction, direction and guidance. The author has kind caring, speaking voice. I loved it, a great reminder of what I believe to be the truth and how it affects our daily lives.

Stick with Loving What Is Audiobook

This book was released before Loving What Is. I like Byron Katie, her material, and think she is very effective. This book as a lot of sections of rambling on, some interaction with an audience. Loving What Is has much more information, is better presented, and more audience material.

Plus, Nightingale Conant Books are triple the price of any other audiobook, it makes no sense. This short book should be priced at $15 tops.

Short story long

This book describes something called "the work" as a way to make peace with ourselves and others. In actuality the work is simple enough but the speaker goes on and on about examples of it. The book could be far shorter if these repetitions were taken out.

Life changing

I just listened to this for the second time. I discovered The Work about 14 months ago, and credit it with setting the foundation for some wonderful changes I've made in my life. I realized how my thoughts were causing me so much pain. The question, "who would you be without this thought?" is so powerful. I am more loving to myself and everyone in my life. I have peace and clarity, and I am so grateful for Byron Katie!

Sets me straight

I listen to hear the interviews. Katie's ability to "turn it around" for a person is impressive and something that I can always apply directly to my life. there are moments, near the end, where she seems to be rambling. it can be off-putting. I believe it's because she is not reading from a script, she is trying to convey a very abstract concept and her experience with it.
