Most of us believe that our happiness depends on the outside world - and that by solving our problems, improving our relationships, or achieving success, we will find contentment. In You Can Be Happy No Matter What, Dr. Richard Carlson shows that happiness has nothing to do with forces beyond our control. His simple and practical guide teaches 5 principles - Thought, Moods, Separate Realities, Feelings, and the Present Moment - for discovering a new mode of living that doesn't repress natural emotions, yet where feelings and thoughts don't overwhelm us.
Dr. Carlson is the best-selling author of Don't Sweat the Small Stuff.

"...Shows us...how to remove the blocks to the awareness of our natural state, happiness." (Gerald Jampolsky, Love is Letting Go of Fear)
"...[Counterbalances] the therapy junkie's tendency to wallow in 'processing' while life's beauty passes them by." (Yoga Journal)
Well, this title is not as brilliant and vibrant as "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff!. It's rather like a textbook on a good topic. But if you give it a fair chance, you'll get as much stuff as Richard Carlson's masterpiece works. His approach for "handling stress" in later chapters is quite original. I simply loved it.
The narrator is great this book keeps me focused. I've had it for a while and I've read it several times. This book helps me put things into perspective. I'm Happy.
I owned the print version of the book previous to purchasing the audio book. I am enjoying the audio version even more because I can listen to it while I otherwise wouldn't be able to read, such as in the car or in the middle of the night when I am too tired or don't want to flip on the lights. I suggest this book to every person I know. If there were only one book a person could have to help manage their own happiness, this would be it. I say that despite the fact I love and listen to many other authors on the same topic. However, this information is so succinct, it's effect is immediate if you are in need of making an emotional changeup. It is much like a mental magic pill. I love every minute of listening to this book.
Laughing while listening to the section regarding taking our thoughts literally, and what we all might be thinking while driving in traffic.
I believe you can hear a sincerity in the authors voice behind what he is saying. I think all people looking to improve themselves seek this kind of non-judgmental advice. You get the feeling Richard Carlson is making an effort to improve peoples lives, not in a sappy way nor in a cold and clinical way, but something human and in between.
Definitely. And repeatedly.
If you ever wished you could 'magically' change your mood, buy this book. It will teach you how to do it. This book has changed my life for the good. Thank you Richard Carlson!
Simplicity. Takes the Best of all the major Psychoanalytic and behavioral schools of therapy and wraps it all up in a Scholarly, yet easy-to-digest work for the professional and lay person alike.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. Just a good book by the same author.
You are your own thoughts.
How to look at thinking, moods, and how to turn negativity into positive outcomes.
Great Read for Professionals in the Mental Healthcare industry as well as individuals who want a clear, concise guidebook which could save a person THOUSANDS in therapy. Dr Carlson also wrote "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" and others, and died due to a blood clot while flying to a book signing at a very young age. He was a great therapist who was ahead of his time, and a great teacher of complex ideas who could bring those ideas to the masses in an easy to understand fashion. He will be missed, but his works live on.
Yes. It covers all the most important parts of the original book.
It concisely covers the most important parts of the original book.

I have read this book many times. It's small, but so logical that it really helps me become happy. I have many books on happiness and this is the most useful one for me, since it has simple, easy-to-use principles to follow. I like the quality of the Audible recording too. It's great to listen to on my iPod, to remind me of the philosophy of the book.
I feel happier today, because I just finished listening and I'm following the simple, but profound principles.
This is one of the best books I've ever listened, it's not a complex theory but a very easy and doable set of practices to become more proactive and take control of our own feelings and our responses to the things happening around us. It can also turn us into more easygoing, more friendly and productive people. Highly recomended listen.
