Great content. Poor audio

As was mentioned in another review, the knowledge of this book is blocked by the presentation. It sounds like the author was reading it from her kitchen table with echo, background noise and general mistakes while reading. The good news is it has some helpful tips. Now I have to get the hard copy to fully enjoy it.

Excellent book and performance!

Any additional comments?

This book delivers as promised. The book is full of meat. It seems like it would help anyone who is truly determined to change a habit, keep a resolution, or make a dream come true. I like hearing books in the author's voice and I thought the performance was very good on this one. Highly recommended! :)

Good ideas, not a good reading

I usually enjoy books read by the author, but I agree with other reviewers that this book would have been significantly improved in being read by anyone other than the author. Admittedly, I've walked away from books in the past where performances were unbearable and I didn't do that here. I did listen through it all. But my first instinct on reviewing the book is actually to review the reading. Extraordinarily unprofessional. Was that a car horn I heard in the background? Was she shuffling papers? Did she record this at her kitchen table with a an old tape deck and cassettes? I kept waiting for a toddler to walk in and start babbling at her knee. And then there are the innumerable times she stumbles over words and even sentences. And the times it sounds like she's yelling, rather than reading. Let's just call it awkward. But I did listen.

A lot, if not all of what's here has been said before. It's more a compendium of popular psychology and current research than new insight, but it was motivating, none the less. And I obviously didn't listen all those other times I heard it, or I wouldn't have purchased the book. To paraphrase the author (and Dr. Phil) (and that guy who keeps spamming my mail with fitness tips), "Nothing will change if you don't begin." And that's still true. So if you're still looking at books like this, you probably need to hear it again. Go ahead and give it a listen. You may be glad you did. (Just be ready to turn the volume down when she starts yelling.)

Many a "a-ha!" moments, but reading and pace.....

Would you listen to This Year I Will again? Why?

Yes, there are many good tips in this book. The author states that this isn't a read once and put away type of book. There are many things to try in order to find what method(s) suit you best.

What three words best describe M. J. Ryan’s performance?

Moving Right Along : )

Any additional comments?

Much of this book is something I've read before, but things that didn't really stick until presented here which is the odd part. It's not so much the author's reading that hindered me fully loving this book, it actually felt more conversational and relaxed with her occasional misspoken words and awkward pauses. My shortcoming with this "Audible Book" is the pacing. It feels like the chapters flow from one to the next without emphasis nor separation of idea(s). I had to pause, backup, and write down the idea or key points to the previous topic a lot.

Me personally, I don't feel that this is a book that I can casually listen to in the car or while exercising because without rapt attention, the ideas just flow right past. I'm still giving it good marks based on content, I like the author's voice and presentation... just the pacing.

Good book but....

If you could sum up This Year I Will in three words, what would they be?

Good advice, ideas

Who was your favorite character and why?

No characters in this book. Is a self help one not a novel.

Have you listened to any of M. J. Ryan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No because sounded like it was being read in a tunnel.

Any additional comments?

The book is a good one giving the reader much to digest from the little I heard. Lots of advice and how-to's to make changes from reading rhe preview. But rapid fire reading was hard to follow. I decided to get the book instead of rewinding to understand what was being said. It should have been read slower so the listener could understand the processes needed to make those changes in their life. I found it good enough to purchase the book.

Perspective is everything ...Amazing Book!

What made the experience of listening to This Year I Will the most enjoyable?

We so many times focus on what we did not do or what we do not have. What we focus on gets bigger. This book give a great perspective of instead of trying to change bad or unwanted habits, instead try to create New Habits that will eventually replace the unwanted behaviors. So if we stop focusing on the negative and focus on the positive things will change. This book give you the tools and exercises to make it an easy translation from beating yourself up to building yourself up. Great Thank you's to the author.

What about M. J. Ryan’s performance did you like?

I enjoy the practical thinking. Focus on what will make you happy not what is not making you happy. If you think negative you feel negative if you think positive you feel positive. M.J. Ryan writes so clearly that when reading you think "I know this, why am I not doing it" it all makes sense. This book is the permission to change. Again Many Many Thanks to M.J. Ryan

What insight do you think you’ll apply from This Year I Will?

The insight I began applying is not to beat myself up for not doing something in the past (even if the past was only 1 minute ago) I instead encourage myself to do what I know I should be doing mainly because I feel at peace and happiest when I am doing what I know I should be doing. It is closer to my "Higher Self" as other authors have said.

Any additional comments?

Just read it. Even if you do not have a break through like I did it still put you more center. Invest in yourself Just Read it.

A very passionate narrator.

I would like to state that when I first started to listening to the book I was dreading going through with the rest of the book. I was thinking of returning the book at one point. and this in the first couple of minutes of the book. Although there is a slight echo seeming to be from not being recorded in a sound proof booth. The passion that the narrator/author supersedes that. She stumbled through some of the words, but it seemed that she was fighting a battle with doing this for the first time and we going along with her. At one point she laughs at something she wrote in the book. You can't help but feel what she is feeling when she reads through the book.

I look forward to more from this author and narrator.

Life-changing suggestions.

What did you love best about This Year I Will?

The suggestions were really, invaluably helpful to me. I'm SO glad I listened to this.

What three words best describe M. J. Ryan’s voice?

Not the best narration, but since it's non-fiction it wasn't really a performance and I like when authors read their own work.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It truly has given me the keys to change something in my life that I didn't think I could. An attitude of mind is a really hard thing to break.
