Publisher's summary

To know the Sweet Potato Queens is to love them, and if you haven't heard about them yet, you will. Since the early 1980s, this group of belles gone bad has been the toast of Jackson, Mississippi, with their glorious annual appearance in the St. Patrick's Day parade. In The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love, their royal ringleader, Jill Conner Browne, introduces the Queens to the world with this sly, hilarious manifesto about love, life, men, and the importance of being prepared. Topics include:

  • The True Magic Words Guaranteed to Get Any Man to Do Your Bidding
  • The Five Men You Must Have in Your Life at All Times
  • Men Who May Need Killing, Quite Frankly
  • What to Eat When Tragedy Strikes, or Just for Entertainment

And, of course:

  • The Best Advice Ever Given in the Entire History of the World

From tales of the infamous Sweet Potato Queens' Promise to the joys of Chocolate Stuff and Fat Mama's Knock You Naked Margaritas, this irreverent, shamelessly funny book is the gen-u-wine article.

Fun Read!

If you need to lighten up a bit, this author will have you laughing, smiling, and just generally cracking up. She even has recipes. I am a northern Michigan "girl" who knows little of the southern belles' mores, but now I want all my friends to be Sweet Potato Queens! If you listen to nothing else in this audio, be absolutely sure to listen to or read the last few minutes. Wonderful philosophy to live by!

A Positive Outlook on All Things

Jill Conner Browne is a fantastic narrator and a wonderful story teller; this book, as with most of the Sweet Potato Queen’s books includes a lot of fun stories some about her or from friends and fans. Browne has the perfect recipe for these books, it starts off with a lot of funny short stories, with some advice thrown in, of course, then there is a sad/tear-jerker story somewhere in the middle, and then she wraps it up with some recipes which sound to die for.

Prepare to fantasize about delicious treats and cocktails while laughing your ass off. If you’re ever in need of a pick-me-up, the Queen will make you feel good.

2nd time was better than 1st

I originally read this book when originally published. Being from Mississippi-it was required reading at the time. However, the 2nd time through the book was wonderful (The 1st time was just GREAT!)
Listening to the book as Jill Conner Brown reads makes it even better.

I just saw the stage adaptation of this book (music by Melissa Manchester) and it spurred me to read again. The play was also hilarious.

Laugh out loud experience

I read (listened) to this years ago. Well worth listening again. I plan to work (work?) my way through all of them again.

Fun Southern Charm!

The book was a great educational piece of southern women. The author helped bring the book to life. Looking forward to trying some of the Sweet Potato Queen recipes.

Hilarious book!

Very very funny. All women can relate to this book. Observations on relationships, beauty, sex, child rearing, fashion, etc. are right on the mark. It gets a little racey/crass in parts -- but in a funny (not dirty) sort of way. I will reccommend it to all my girlfriends.
