Did not live up to rave reviews and endorsements I've heard from others.
Disappointment. Little angry that I wasted credit on it.
A friend of mine shared a perspective that this is a book that will make sense to you provided certain conditions exist in your life. In her case she was dealing with depression and some other issues. At all other times it doesn't do much. I guess I can agree.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend. It helped me see how to take control of my life and the things that were happening to me.
Learning that I was in complete control of my situation.
It was a whole new way of thinking for me.
My life has changed significantly for the better after having learned of this.
No but I will.
I have listened to it 10 times now, sometimes all at once & sometimes in bits.
I thought it was very well done & it has been a life changing experience for me.
I love it! I've listened to it a few times a year! so inspirational and life changing! if you lived this book, get the Power! is even better
We listened to The Secret on a long road trip. We played it twice, and I've since referred to the book several times. I can hear Rhonda's voice when I read the book, so I recommend both.
Learning that I create my life. Noone else.
That I create my life; I can summon anything I want, providing I am positive and have unwaivering faith that I will receive it.
The story itself is absolutely absurd. The presentation is acceptable.
In my opinion, "The Law of Attraction" is crap. There may be some truth to having a positive attitude about things and life getting better, but the only reason some things happen is because GOD made them happen. Not some ridiculous law of the universe.
Positive thought habits
Jack Canfield talking about things his dad said which became part of his negative social conditioning like
It's over 4 hours so I don't listen all in one sitting. I do however listen to it repeatedly.
I like this book and I liked the movie as well.
True if believe
Everything was pretty on point, I especially like the chapter that mentions the Genie
As much of it as I can.
The secret is an awesome book- pls buy, it's life changing (if you apply)
How it theaching us to do for outselfs, and secceed.
How to be HAPPY!!
So decided to listen to this audio book as I had heard a couple of people say good things about it. As soon as I started to listen, alarm bells start going off. Yup, definitely a heap of crap. But I convinced myself to continue with an open mind. Mistake. Lasted 2 hours before turning it off and vowing to save as many others from this crap as possible. I feel significantly stupider since listening to this book...Would have benefited from continuity, intelligent writing, credible sources, contributors who DON'T sound like they are trying to sell me a vacuum cleaner, sham-wow, or magnetic pillow... If something seems to good to be true, it probably (almost definitely) is.
Rhonda Byrne could have not written this book at all and we would all be better off, and I would have my $20 back
Everyone sounded like they were from an infomercial. The 'references' and 'credible sources ' were incredibly weak. How could Oprah (or anyone who has actually read this book) give it any kind of positive review.
I am hesitant to even stretch my imagination to come up with a redeeming quality. If I was Oprah and a publisher was paying me to give this book a good wrap, I might stretch to say they tried to pick and choose bits and pieces from different religious belief systems that they liked (strong christian swing though), a bit here and there from meditation, and the the occasional bastardized quote from a famous philosopher, physicist or meta-physicist (yes that's right, physics and meta-physics are opposed. Did your google search not tell you that Rhonda?). All gently tied together in the fashion of a midday TV sales rep telling you everything will be okay if you just think happy thoughts...
Please don't waste your money.
"1 star is being generous!"
This is related to the laws of attraction and is basically consumerist non-sense aimed at those gullible enough to swallow it. Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. This is so transparently ugly and stupid that it seems impossible that anyone could take it seriously. Take out the buzzwords and pseudo religious nonsense about what you 'manifest' for yourself, ignore the vague prose and you get the message that thinking positively serves you better than thinking negatively. To sane people this is laughable, like the Tooth Fairy or Ouija boards. If you're falling out of an airplane, the law of gravity trumps the law of attraction.
"Terrible advice and quite offensive"
The author claims that the victims of Nazi Germany PUT themselves in that situation due to their negative thoughts and thinking.
The author claims that patients with cancer and other critical illness's have brought on their disease with their thoughts and can heal themselves with thought alone.
The rest of the book is in my opinion just a spin on the 'positive thinking' sales pitch popular in life coaching through the 1990's and a protracted advert for the authors movie on DVD and related products.
A fool any his money is so easily parted...
I requested a refund of my Audible credit
"There is no 'Secret'"
I brought this book about three years ago but only writing my review now as I believe time was a true test. I initially brought this as two close friends raved about it and curiosity led me to give it a listen. I was quite angry at the underlying message of this book - that you, and you alone, are responsible for what happens in your life, and all external interactions are a result of you attracting that to yourself. Others have highlighted what this implies for the sick and disabled. Of course this book has a great defence mechanism, that should you find fault with it then your not practicing the 'Secret' correctly; No I didn't, but my friends and many others did and did it deliver the life changing guarantees if offered? No in the slightest.
The only thing I can commend it for is that it probably will put you in a positive frame of mind for a while. If so then good, use that to DO things to get on with life but don't expect the universe to give you everything, its busy enough without tending to greed.
"Missing 1 vital thing."
Determination... This books puts out that with positive thinking alone you can sit back and all will fall into you lap. Total rubbish. If positive thinking was so powerful there would be no point playing sports as our teams would never loose, we would never get illnesses etc etc. Complete rubbish.
"If you like simple answer"
Positive thinking is one thing but blaming victims for being victims is beyond my resistance. With in the first hour you will read that victims of the genocide, crime, rape, murder, have attracted this evil by there way of thinking. It never mentions how babies and very young children attract this kind of horror.
If you like simple answer and are stupidly materialistic this book is for you. If you want to believe that cancer, Nazis, hunger, and natural disasters are made up by your mind this is your book.
I can not believe that intelligent people are not lining up to denounce this garbage.
"Please don't read this book!"
Firstly I expected a story, not a self-help book. There was nothing in the blurb to warn me that it was not a conventional novel.
Not write it in the first place. It was utter unscientific nonsense.
Even if I put my utter horror and disbelief aside for a minute and pretend that I could swallow such nonsense, the book is endlessly repetitive. The "secret" is revealed in the early stages of the book and then endlessly repeated.
There are no characters. It is a long tedious lecture on the "secret" with "professionals" adding their deep and meaningless insights.
Please post this review to prevent other unsuspecting listeners from making the same mistake. It was a complete waste of money.
Complete rubbish - I cannot think why I downloaded this. I will more careful in future.
"Empty - Made for the sake of making money"
This is your typical run of the mill self-help/inspirational swindle - a money maker and nothing more. Full of empty platitudes and inane cliches that you've heard a million times before.
This book does more harm than good with it's wishy-washy 'ask the universe and all shall be granted' approach. Here in the real world you have to work hard and persevere to get want you want.
"No voice available for this book. Why sell as audi"
Having a voice so we can listen as an audible book.
Add voice and give me my money back
"The Secret to Life!"
This is one of those rare books that really can change your life! I have listened to it about 6 times in the 3 weeks I have had it, and still want more. I feel more energised, positive and most of all, happier! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to improve their life in simple but profound ways.
