I like this program. It's a great way to remind you about continuing to practice the methods. You watch the movie, get excited, practice for a few weeks and then life begins to take back over. Before long you are back to your normal patterns. Listening to this audio every couple of months is a great way to remind you to stay focused and keep practicing.
The law (Lore) is absolute and unbreakable, but yet in just one chapter "The law doesn't know positive or negative", and then .... "Think negative on others and it happens to you." 9/11 victims brought it on themselves. That alone should have been a warning to turn it off, but alas, I continued.
Look, the basic principle is think positive, get positive. Something that has been around and KNOWN for thousands of years. The title shouldn't be "The Secret", but rather "A First Graders Primer to Dale Carnegie" or "The Idiot's Guide to Tim Robbins". I couldn't make it past an hour and 45 minutes either. It took me 3 tries just to GET to that. The contradictions were too great to handle. "Lore" of Attraction, by their definition is so much more appropriate than Law.
I should have known better when right out of the gate we hear titles like "Life Coach" and "Affirmation Specialist".
Oprah! What where you thinking?!
The principals are undoubtably precise! That's the only thing that kept me listening. The fact that God, the One who Created the Universe was put on the back burner (so as not to offend) is missing the whole point! Otherwise, if it were pointed to the ONE TRUE ONE, it would have receive 4 stars from me. I've practiced these principals for years. It's all Priorties, don't forget the MAIN one!
This book helped me understand what I have known for years: I will get everything I ask for! It also explained to me why I stopped getting the good things and was only getting what I did not really want; I was being negative!!! This book speaks the truth and is well worth listening to. I am very, very happy I decided to buy it. Do yourself a favor, buy the book and open your mind :)
I'm writing this review for the person out there who's heard about The Secret and is intrigued, but has read a few negative reviews of this book here or at Amazon, (wow it provokes a lot of strong emotion in people, which I'd argue is really good!!) Listening to this book in combination with watching the DVD has produced remarkable results in my own life and changed much of my outlook in a very positive way, (e.g. I’ve hit new ambitious fitness goals, feel rejuvenated and excited about life's possibilies and wonder, and remarkably doubled my professional income in 3 months). I'm very thankful that I stumbled into the audiobook version here this year, (didn’t know an audio version existed at the time). Side note: the actual book itself is excellent, but the real value in the audiobook version is quite frankly getting to hear Rhonda Byrne herself narrate, (what a remarkable woman!) In summary, I have gained tremendously from re-listening to this recording on a weekly basis. So if you’re intrigued, take a chance and listen to this book, I’m so fortunate that I did!!
This is my first review. I had hopes for this book. Initially, it seemed very uplifting and full of promise. I began to realize that there is nothing new in this. (Norman Vincent Peale wrote the Power of Positive Thinking many years ago.)
The idea of telling people to just think of wealth and good fortune and that alone will bring it on is absurd. On the other hand, the clever marketing (bravo for getting Oprah to interview the author) has made those involved in the enterpise quite wealthy, I am sure. This book preys on those who are desperate for an easy answer to their problems.
While more esoteric, I found Eckhart Tolle's Power of Now much more helpful. It is not a quick fix manual, but a long term approach to living the best life regardless of wealth or other circumstances.
Rediculous. Should be sold on an infomercial at 3am. Once I buy a book, I refuse to not finish it but my will power was definitely tested with this one. I just read an article in Newsweek about The Secret and completely agree that it is hyped, rehashed hogwash that has been very, very cleverly marketed. I also think that this book would not be so big without the huge success of the Da Vinvi Code. Although the two are in no way related, The Secret draws heavily on the age old secret aura of the Da Vinci Code to sell motivational informercials that have been promoted by the likes of Deepak Chopra and Tony Robbins for the past 100 years. I mean seriously, the way to lose weight is not to diet and exercise but to "stop looking at fat people". The titles she gives the "experts" as supporting evidence in this book are also hilarious. Not to mention, the authors voice is utterly annoying an makes me feel like I am being scammed. Avoid unless you are one to fall for those foreclosure infomercials, work from home offers, and pyramid schemes. By the way, 100 little pieces and now this, Oprah what are you thinking?!?
