While I like the subject matter and feel that it is important, I don't think it offers anything new, nor does it deliver it in a particularly effective or enjoyable manner. I found it very similar to parts of the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Also, similar information is available from Dwyer, Chopra, Myss, and even Brian Tracy if you venture to the business section.
I am not sure if this book can get any better. The main problem is the story which seems to be very successful for average people, but not for me or smarter people. It just says what you want to hear and not what you need to hear.
This book is uplifting and inspirational. I have thoroughly enjoyed The Secret and I've been practicing the techniques on a daily basis. The techniques are easy, fun and they don't cost anything! The Secret is priceless! Thank you Rhonda Byne.
You've probably heard most of the messages in this book because they've been around for ages and the overall secret is alarmingly simple to comprehend and practice - and I can tell you from first hand experience it works. The real gem of this audio book is that this story is masterfully crafted and lovingly delivered. There's passion from the first word and it's infectious. This is a first class production and a very enjoyable listen. Don't be surprised if you end up with all you asked for... that's it!
I think anyone who says this book is a phony has no idea the power of the mind; it follows the same principles of Think and Grow Rich. You can litteraly will yourself - good or bad- and are not a victim uless you think that way.
Interesting idea, but not presented with much basis in fact. Redundant in its presentation and a bit droll in content. The aggressive focus on material wealth was shallow and a bit kitchy.
I think it gives some wonderful suggestions on positive thinking, gratitude and visualization. I wish it focused less on material wealth and more on relationships, health and other things that bring us happiness.
After listening to this book I purchased it also in paperback. A great book for inspiring you to think of your daily actions and how they reflect on not only your outlook but how others view you. Great for getting you back on track to a more positive way of life.
I purchased the audio version a few weeks ago and enjoyed listening to it, but heard that the DVD was very different. After viewing the DVD, a lot of the content is exactly the same, but there are visual illustrations that will help you if you are more kinetic or visually receptive.
As far as this being some kind of silly vibe nonsense, having lived using these principles since about 1983, I can vouch for it being as effective as you are bold and patient enough to ask and take action on.
Even if it didn't produce dramatic results for many people, the shift in attitude and clarity produced by thinking this way make life more enjoyable and positive for everyone. Thankfulness, love and focusing on the good around us instead of the inconveniences are always going to produce a better life regardless of the circumstances.
Has "The Secret" made a difference in my life? I was diagnosed with infertility and have 6 amazing children. Several "incurable" diseases healed in my family. I've gone from visiting food banks and having my house in foreclosure 3 times to making about 3 times my areas average income and in the process of taking my company to a higher level now that my children are older.
I couldn't list the hundreds of small things that have just "shown up" ranging from a perfectly fitting wedding dress for $99 dollars that was the exact copy of a picture I'd torn out at age 16 and hadn't looked at until after the wedding when I was 20 to connections with people to household items I wanted or my children wanted.
The premise of "The Secret" could be interesting and useful for those who need a lift. However, for those who are looking for a scholarly walk through self analysis and enlightenment I suggest looking elsewhere. The book feels like a term paper written using the National Enquirer as it's lead source. The message is clear from the outset concerning the power of positive thinking but the author rambles amd repeats the same message so much it feels like brainwashing. "The Secret" can have a place as an important message in our lives, but this is simply an extravagant marketing commercial for the people who need to hear the message the most. The author name drops several well respected figures in history but their connection with the "The Secret" is unclear. Just because one chooses to quote Einstein and Churchill in their book it simply does not make the message anymore earth shaking or relevent.
Perhaps those who are in need of self-analysis would be better served reading from scholars who offer substance to their logic and not best-sellers on Oprah's list.
"Psuedo Science of the worst kind"
Goes way beyond the obvious benefits that thinking positively undoubtedly offers. But when I got to the point in the book that starts to describe pseudo scientific descriptions of people sending out "Frequencies" that materielise into positive or negative outcomes , was just too much for me. I was not quite as offended as others described as it such patently nonsense. I certainly did feel like asking for my money back and was particularly irritated by what seemed like pure fabrications of events reported as real that if true would have compromised most of what science knows about the universe - Deceitful misleading and surely dangerous in the wrong heads......
Complete rubbish - I cannot think why I downloaded this. I will more careful in future.
"Misled by previous good reviews"
A load of spiritual nonsense, promising riches and happiness to the vulnerable. Annoyed with myself for buying it.
"I can't take it any more!"
I've only listened to 30 minutes, but I can't stand it. Pseudoscientic, falsifiable, made-up BS.
"There is only a magician that leads the show."
There's no secret out there. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. It's just like one of those sort 'get rich quick schemes' that never worked. There is no magic there is only magician that leads the show to his audience.
"The secret is not a secret."
I bought this book out of a curiosity. I had to force myself to finish it.
I like positive thinking. I like the general idea of karma and optomism.
I do not like the book the secret. It trying to justifiy its pseudoscience by using quotes of long dead famous people to rationalise its philosphy. It trys to hide beside quantum mechanics to pretend its scientific.
The very idea that people "attract" everything they interact with is reprehensable to say the least. That is a great lesson to tell people who were victims of abuse as children, or people diagnosed with cancer.
It also steals from Buddism and trys to compare life to a catalog. Kind missed that in the teaching on Buddism being materialistic
"Fine content, marred by the delivery"
I rated the content at 4 stars since the book provides a good overview of the 'New Thought' philosophy as it has developed over the 20th century. However, I found the audio slightly marred by the authors delivery, which was a heady combination of stilted, breathless and needlessly over dramatic at times. Other voice acting for the classical 'New Thoughters' (Wattle, et al) was fine, and the 'experts' voices are just the experts voices. since most earn a steady living doing presentations, their delivery is fluid and clear.
Overall, a good addition to the 'concious creation' canon, that pays its dues to the founders of the field, but a professional narrator would have improved the packaged that final star.
At the same time as I saw this on audible and downloaded it, I had several unconnected references to it from friends and family, all quite positive. I agree with one of the other reviewers that the authors delivery is not very professional, but taking a leaf out of her book we can smile and be thankful! She is certainly full of enthusiasm for which she gets full marks. I have been investigating similar material for about 25 years, but this is the first time I have seen it presented together in an easily digestable manner. Even the narrow minded sceptic can listen and try out the simple philosophy, without much fear of ridicule. She gets 10 out of 10 for me for shear effort and strength of character to make this happen! Go on try it!
"inspiring. awakening. enlightening. thank you."
I really enjoyed this audio book. it has been a philosophy of mine to always be greatful and to be positive but this telling whilst preaching to the already converted, found a way to re-inspire, and to leave me fulfilled.
very enjoyable and very uplifting too.
"Could of been summarised in a sentence"
A book of examples, interesting but gets quite repetitive. Just focus on what you want to happen in your life and it will happen.. saved you a credit
