Don't put off listening to this great book until tomorrow. Seriously this is a practical, step by step approach to becoming more action orientated, focusses the mind on the order and importance of tasks. Using knowledge of human psychology the author believes we can trick, cajole and manipulate ourselves into productivity just as easily as we can fall into passivity and procrastination. We just need to recognise the signs of weakness and act on them. Worth a listen on the way to work.
This book spoke more about the situations and problems brought on by procrastination. This is something that a procrastinator already knows. The book needs to discuss more of the direct ways or step-by-step means to help you overcome procrastination.The title suggests that it is a "Handbook". It is anything but a handbook. The reader/author has a very monotone voice that almost puts you to sleep. Nothing enthusiastic about this book.In my opinion don't buy this book.
I thought I understood all the reasons why I procrastinated and was looking for a guide as to what to do about it. As I listened to this audio book, I realised that there were additional reasons that I hadn't even been aware of ... and just knowing that helped me to undo some of my procrastination problems. I just had to laugh when I heard her talk about "the traveller". She was definitely describing me... and so now I don't do as much travelling and get heaps more done.
This audiobook is excellent! I've listened to it over three times and keep making changes to the way I do things. I feel much more relaxed and confident that I can do whatever I want to do. Its amazing, but its like I have more time! I don't think I could manage my career, an MBA, having a social life, and being a newly-single parent all at once if I hadn't started listening to this book as I was starting the MBA. People now ask me how is it that I do, and i typically tell them that I read a book on procastination. Now I understand how successful people do everything, and why I've always been so stressed, and -sadly- what has held me back for so long. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
...I highly recommend this book to procrastinators who are ready to make a really big change in their lives. And if you've 'heard it all before', then this may not be the book for you. It's definitely the book for procrastinators who need help in figuring out how to do it, i.e., how to declutter, how to get organized, how to stop wasting time always looking for misplaced things, how to stop wasting money on late fees, and how to stop being late for everything. Being a self-proclaimed 'recovering procrastinator', the author has the ability to empathize with those who are stuck in the procrastination rut. Her recommendations are practical; of course common sense to 'anticrastinators'--as she calls them. A truly worthwhile read for those drowning in clutter and disorganization, and those who are really ready to make a major lifestyle change!
Finally a person that I can relate to!! I have read/listened to a few books on this topic and have walked away even more discouraged than when I started. I have found that the authors usually sound to me like they have no clue to how life really is with 6 children, a husband, a job, animals, sports, homework, cooking for 8, etc... and that's all before 8a.m. Listening to this book gave me some great tips and tricks that I've implemented and worked!!! My husband and children have begun to see a difference around the house and my attitude is better because I am feeling less and less "under the gun".
I enjoyed her sense of humor, anecdotes and ability to be transparent at her own failings.
The book left me hopeful that I too will be able to help another person become procrastination-free.
As someone whose mother tongue is not English, I feel the narrator's accent annoying. Is it American English she reads the book in? I often would not buy those audiobooks that are narrated by their authors because they tend to be poorly read. You see? I am right again this time. It is a good book which I would recommend to procrastinators like me. If you can lay your hands on a printed copy, do it. But if you are particular about the beauty of audiobooks (of which beautiful pronunciation should be an important aspect), I urge you to procrastinate buying this one.
This book is filled with tips and tricks on how to get things done. If you like tips and tricks, then give it a shot. I would Highly recommend David Allen's "Getting Things Done." It is basically a system that will show you why we procrastinate and what can be done about it in a more exciting way.
Maybe I read (or listen to) too many self help books, but I kept waiting for something I hadn't heard before. I think if someone is new to the subject, this would be an excellent primer. But the section on procrastination is quite brief. Thought Dave Allen's material is more helpful from a business perspective.
