Show Up and Let Yourself be Seen
Is vulnerability the same as weakness? “In our culture,” teaches Dr. Brené Brown, “we associate vulnerability with emotions we want to avoid such as fear, shame, and uncertainty. Yet we too often lose sight of the fact that vulnerability is also the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, authenticity, and love.” On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.
“The Power of Vulnerability is a very personal project for me,” Brené explains. “This is the first place that all of my work comes together. This audio course draws from all three of my books - it’s the culmination of everything I’ve learned over the past twelve years. I'm very excited to weave it all into a truly comprehensive form that shows what these findings and insights can mean in our lives.”
Guidance and Insights for Wholehearted Living
Over the past twelve years, Dr. Brené Brown has interviewed hundreds of people as part of an ongoing study of vulnerability. “The research shows that we try to ward disappointment with a shield of cynicism, disarm shame by numbing ourselves against joy, and circumvent grief by shutting off our willingness to love,” explains Dr. Brown. When we become aware of these patterns, she teaches, we begin to become conscious of how much we sacrifice in the name of self-defense -and how much richer our lives become when we open ourselves to vulnerability.
“In my research,” Dr. Brown says, “the word I use to describe people who can live from a place of vulnerability is wholehearted.” Being wholehearted is a practice—one that we can choose to cultivate through empathy, gratitude, and awareness of our vulnerability armor. Join this engaging and heartfelt teacher on The Power of Vulnerability as she offers profound insights on leaning into the full spectrum of emotions—so we can show up, let ourselves be seen, and truly be all in.

Brene Brown explains vulnerability and demonstrates how vulnerability manifests in people. Then, she shares tools you can use NOW on how to grow and work with it instead of fighting it.
The tools shared are now in use with my daily living. Even deploying one tool at work has given me insight of how I was allowing others to affect me - demonstrating what's acceptable and what is not.
Brene Brown comes across as "just one of us" and we are all in this boat together. It doesn't matter your economic status, family status, or anything else. Her stories were true and genuine - authentic! We are all human. I loved this about her presentation and demeanor. Most importantly, there was no condescension, just uplifting messages. Thank you!
Yes and No. I think taking the book in chunks is better. This allows you to reflect on the message. AND, it was so good, I could sit one day and just listen. This is definitely in my replay library.
Thank you for this opportunity to listen to your messages and how to work with vulnerability in life. There were a lot of "aha" moments - and they say awareness is 90% of the journey. Thank you for sharing some tips and messages to help with the other 10% of the journey.
Brene Brown is a fantastic presenter who walks the talk and talks the walk of vulnerability.
Brene Brown's delivery of her own content.
I'm more healthily aware of blame, shame, guilt, embarrassment and vulnerability and becoming better at caring for myself as well as others.
Recommending this to everyone I love.
Five years ago I heard her speak at a conference, and enjoy her ways of knowing and her choice of qualitative research. Her choices expands the field away from evidenced-based practice - Finally! She is one of my favorite researchers.
Dense with surprising ideas. Because this was research based, many of the discoveries brought me new perspectives. Applicable, useful advice.
My all time favorite!!!
Any of Dr. Brown's books, except the audio version of Daring Greatly, that narrator was NOT a fit for that book.
Her intellect, her personality, and her presentation.
ALL of it I possibly can, realizing that feeling not enough, is a scarcity culture we have created.
(Be careful though, as you will be diving into the depths of what makes you you and them them!)
Wouldn't have missed this for the world!
I have a rather eclectic love of books. I know what I like and I tend not to be a severe critic. If I enjoyed it, it gets 4 or 5 stars.
Wow! I had never really heard of Brene Brown before, but now I have read everything she has written and watched her Ted Talks. She really hit home with a lot of what she talks about - shame, vulnerability, feeling like you are not as good as you should be, and what holds us back from our life. She tells us what the characteristics are of truly happy people and it really makes you ask yourself the important questions about how you are living your life. I highly recommend this book if you feel like you are searching for something in your life but just are not sure what it is that will make you happy!
I am an ordained minister and as with most ministers I am involved in community politics. At times I feel like the hufalump from Pooh Corner falling into the hole while looking up. There is much wisdom here about keeping our vision and actions focused up while being aware of the pits; and most of those are the ones we ourselves dug. This is a great guide for self awareness and self-forgiveness aka whole hearted ness.
Brene speaks with humility, passion and strength. It was easy to connect with her and that she is "like me" and knows what living "in the real world" is like.
I laughed a lot and was very inspired by much of what she spoke about. I journalled a lot and have shifted many things for myself thanks to the self awareness this book gave me.
