Show Up and Let Yourself be Seen
Is vulnerability the same as weakness? “In our culture,” teaches Dr. Brené Brown, “we associate vulnerability with emotions we want to avoid such as fear, shame, and uncertainty. Yet we too often lose sight of the fact that vulnerability is also the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, authenticity, and love.” On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.
“The Power of Vulnerability is a very personal project for me,” Brené explains. “This is the first place that all of my work comes together. This audio course draws from all three of my books - it’s the culmination of everything I’ve learned over the past twelve years. I'm very excited to weave it all into a truly comprehensive form that shows what these findings and insights can mean in our lives.”
Guidance and Insights for Wholehearted Living
Over the past twelve years, Dr. Brené Brown has interviewed hundreds of people as part of an ongoing study of vulnerability. “The research shows that we try to ward disappointment with a shield of cynicism, disarm shame by numbing ourselves against joy, and circumvent grief by shutting off our willingness to love,” explains Dr. Brown. When we become aware of these patterns, she teaches, we begin to become conscious of how much we sacrifice in the name of self-defense -and how much richer our lives become when we open ourselves to vulnerability.
“In my research,” Dr. Brown says, “the word I use to describe people who can live from a place of vulnerability is wholehearted.” Being wholehearted is a practice—one that we can choose to cultivate through empathy, gratitude, and awareness of our vulnerability armor. Join this engaging and heartfelt teacher on The Power of Vulnerability as she offers profound insights on leaning into the full spectrum of emotions—so we can show up, let ourselves be seen, and truly be all in.

In my top 10 of all time
Brene Brown because she's the only person in the seminar!
This is an audiobook/seminar that should be listened to by every person on earth (in my humble opinion). What Brene Brown offers via her research into shame and vulnerability has changed my life, and I believe it has the capacity to change the way all people relate to themselves and to others. It is extremely powerful. The way Brene presents the information is engaging, humourous and practical - it can be applied immediately in your life. This audio presentation has changed my life and I have listened to it multiple times. Thank you!
Brene makes you feel better about the things you do that you were embarrassed to share with others. For me it's random grocery store dance moves and the cry that ends up a laugh.
I called my best friend at various points in the book with some "you should read this, because we aren't as crazy as we thought" moments!
I could definitely do a better job living a whole hearted life, so thanks Brene for providing the guideposts!
This book has made such a meaningful impact on me and my life. I urge the listener to listen in small chunks then take the time to reflect. There were several moments that reduced me to tears.
Also, I am a 46 year old male attorney. The concepts Brene Brown talks about are universal.
I painted my bathroom this weekend. I wanted to listen to something great as I worked. Coming across this book was the best unplanned read that I've ever had. Halfway through I recommended it to nearly everyone I know. So great, on point, and terribly and terrifically relatable!!
This is one of the best books I have ever heard. It challenges you, while at the same time teaching you in real and sometimes hilarious ways why authenticity and vulnerability are so important to being the real you and living a full life.
Brene Brown is a fantastic presenter who walks the talk and talks the walk of vulnerability.
Brene Brown's delivery of her own content.
I'm more healthily aware of blame, shame, guilt, embarrassment and vulnerability and becoming better at caring for myself as well as others.
Recommending this to everyone I love.
Five years ago I heard her speak at a conference, and enjoy her ways of knowing and her choice of qualitative research. Her choices expands the field away from evidenced-based practice - Finally! She is one of my favorite researchers.
There is no print version, I believe.
Brene Brown provided a lot of anecdotes - I loved how the recording wasn't based off a book but a bunch of different lectures. She's a very likeable and humorous person and I loved listening to her.
I really learned a lot about shame/vulnerability and she provided a different lens for me to look at those things.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AUDIOBOOK. Seriously, Brene Brown is fantastic.
"Inspiring and funny"
I laughed out loud as i recognised my self in so many of her story - she is so open and honest its refreshing.
"Very helpful if you want to know something more about yourself"
This is the recording of one of Brené workshop, it is going through many aspects of vulnerability, from Shame to Joy.
It is amazing how our behaviour is predictable.
I'd definitely suggest listing it.
"Brené is a master storyteller (shame researcher!)"
The powerful message that is told throughout this book is heightened by the author's tone and humour - on point. I would highly recommend listening to this book.
Funny, insightful and inspiring!
There were many bits. Brene talks about the importance of play for adults and also the importance of laughter, song and dance in making us happy.
I have never listened to Brene Brown before, but a friend recommended her books. I knew she was an inspiring speaker as I have seen her TED Talks. This audiobook is a series of presentations she has given at a conference. Do not be put off by this, it is really really good. I listened to the whole book in one sitting. Brilliant. So easy to listen to and very thought-provoking. I will definitely listen to this audiobook again.
It is very funny. I was howling.
Recommended. Loved it!
"very good quality book"
deep, emotional, healing
This is not your everyday self- help book, no "how- to" guide. It takes you on a deep and emotional quest, yet staying realistic and relatable. It will hit home with so many of us, that need a bit of clarity and tools to set some behaviours into context.
Absolutely love it. Love the information. Love the style. Absolutely brilliant. Its inspired me to buy more of your books and listen to them. Acting goofy right now on a park swing with ice cream in my hand. Thanks. :)
"listened to it twice so far"
and I Look forward to listening to it again. A lot of laughter makes the subject very approachable. everyone should listen to this.
"Eye opener to a new concept"
Brene's sense of humour , tone of voice made the topic joyful
Worth listening too ..
She introduced concept of " shame" which was once overlooked .. All of a sudden I realised how many times I bit my fingers over things that are silly and purely to please others.. All in all , good listen
100% over and over again.
I have listened to all the TED talks and I was hesitant about listening to this because I thought it would contain the same material, however, this by far outweighs all the others! I love the way she delivers an important moral message using anecdotes that will have you laughing out loud, literally!
This is the best of them all.
no, I wanted it to last a week, but I did it in three days.
If you listen there will be some laughter and maybe some tears, all whilst helping you become the best you. Takes notes, it's sooooo worth it!!!
"Life changing stuff."
This was life changing stuff for me.
Well worth 6 hours of your time.
Insightful and very very funny.
