At age 16 this book saved my life physically, later my soul Spiritually.
I so respect this old time Methodist Preacher. What a kind, gentle, caring
soul he is. Could not put the paper copy down as a kid. Read this book and
reread it over the years. I took notes and high lighted my original copy.
Thought having it on my Mp3 for driving would keep me at peace and balanced
in a good place. Life comes at you fast! It's good to know where the bumps are
in the road ahead and to be prepared ahead of time. This book is good for that as
well as showing you the way out of any pitfall you already are in! I cannot wait to
meet you on the other side Dr. Peale. Because of you, I will be there. <3
Everything! His tone, the way his true heart comes through. His earnestness in wanting to somehow help lift up and pull up people to be better, do better, 'like' themselves. <3
It LIFTED tons of invisible yet very real WEIGHTS from my back & shoulders & Spirit.
I am not where I belong and want to be at this time but I thank God for Norman Vincent Peale that I'm most certainly NOT where I 'used' to be!!! Hoo Rah!
A time tested book. I found alot of the information to be very helpful. It contains a balance of religion with the advice it has in it. Worth every penny.
I have to admit I have owned the book for almost a decade and struggled to get through it. Maybe the difference is the period which it was written in or his ability to tie the bible in. It just didn't create any feeling of curiosity or desire. The style of the book and the audio abridged version I felt lacked excitement and gratitude, that one should feel after hearing the message of Peale. This book and audio program has sold millions and I still recommend both as they have key principles that may help you look at your self differently. May you listen to this audio book and do what's most important which is take a thorough self analysis to understanding yourself. Conquer yourself by creating better habits by stacking good ones all day.
As some others have said, if religion isn't your thing, pass on this book. I appreciate his positive stances and passion for his religion and faith but it's not my cup of tea. I am 35 minutes into it and I can hardly stand listening to one more minute.
The entire book so far has been based on Christianity, faith and prayer. If these aren't in your daily life, pass on this book. I had high hopes for this book and wish I could get a refund...
A classic ! Kind of reminds me of How to win friends and influence people. I loved the fact that the author is the narrator, some of the storys he used, i found to be quite funny and had a few good laughs through out listening. I loved it ! It really emphasized the power of faith and prayer which I find absolutely essential to surviving day to day life. Most people can use all the tip they can get to stay positive. I esspecially enjoyed his remedy for worrying. I helps.
I listened to this 12 years ago and I had to add it to my collection. I'm not of his faith, but the principles are universal. Definitely worth listening to.
Completely based on faith in the Lord. Although the author speaks from experience, I think his experiences were too vague or maybe even exxagerated a bit. His voice is really old and hard to relate to. I though the highlights were a little vague as well.
Ways to use the bible to become positive.
Use different voiceover
I think with his examples that many people would have a hard time relating with his generalities.
probably not. unless you are a devote christian then this book will make you roll your eyes
It is way to centred on religion. If believing in god is your thing then this book is great however if you couldn't care less about religion this book will irritate you.
I appreciate what Norman is saying however if you are not religious then do not listen to it. People are entitled to their views and if you choose to live your life by the bible that is fine however for a non-churchie listening to the constant 'god' talk makes the book lose its appeal very quickly. Wish i could get a refund.
This audio books is OK I guess if you are a committed Christian. with constant and irritating references to the bible, praying, the scriptures. the voice is of an american older gentleman and is quite annoying and slow.
full of stories of his life experiences.witch makes up most of the book with little practical advice apart from read the bible and pray ect ect more like a sermon in church than a practical self help book.
