Debbie Ford explains that the dark side of our personality should not be hidden. By denying our dark side, we reject these aspects of our true natures rather than giving ourselves the freedom to live authentically. Here she shows that it is possible to acknowledge and accept our so-called weaknesses, proving that these qualities may be important, hidden strengths. For example, perhaps some "selfishness" can save us from exhaustion and resentment.
Full of illuminating stories and practical exercises, Debbie Ford shows us how to reconcile our darker impulses and find the gifts they offer. Your life will be transformed when you unconceal, own, and embrace your shadow.

Ive continued to listen to this for months on end! Constantly finding more about myself, and bringing forgiveness! I am so grateful to have found this... it brought me out of a severe depression.

one of he examples I related to specifically so was great
Challenges are Valuable
The example of the discovery of the golden Buddah that had been covered with clay.
By performing this herself, she was able to add a personal dimension that helped me better understand not just the concepts that she was trying to explain, but also the emotional context that accompanies them.
If we do not stop complaining and take the time to search for and find the gift that is hidden in every trial in life, we will get double smacked by the experience, because we will suffer needlessly and also won't receive the valuable lessons that are there for our growth and enjoyment.
This is one of those love it or hate it kind of books. It invites you to stretch yourself, and to see life from a very different perspective. If you choose not to absorb and embrace its concepts, you will be choosing the short end of the stick. GREAT BOOK!
YES for sure. She asks some really really good questions, that gets you thinking about yourself!
All of it really, many SHOCK questions.
What we often DON'T LIKE in someone else is often a mirror of something we don't like about ourself!
I have been passing over this book for a few months, thinking this is not for me!
But then l stopped and asked myself. Why does this book keep coming up???
I believe someone want me to listen to it!
So glad i did as now it's in my top ten favorite books.....
I would recommend this book to all who are seeking a deeper experience of self love in their lives. It is a powerful perspective from which to view and own every part of ones self. I found it to be enlightening, uplifting, and a very useful tool in meeting the parts of myself that I previously did not like with love and compassion.
I listen it any time I get a chance or i find myself reacting for no reason
her authentic life
You can feel Debbie's authenticity as she tells her story. I could tell how important she feels her message is and how much she wants to help others with it.
I now have such a great understanding of why certain characteristics in other people bothered me so much. It never occurred to me that they were the qualities in myself I did not like or want to deal with. The level of acceptance of myself first then of others has changed dramatically which in turn has changed my life.
Perfect book for people who are in a place to handle true self-reflection and really want a major change in themselves.
