My Therapist recommended Spontaneous Happiness. Through understanding negative thought patterns and "rumination", I've been able to pull myself out of a deep dark hole and move forward after a divorce and relocation. I never understood how powerful negative thought is. I now know I'm not as insane as I imagined, and have the ability to beat this.
Dr. Weil has a great voice, if he wasn't a doctor he could have been an announcer.
Everytime I read a fantasticaly helpful, useful book like this I run out and buy the paper book so I can pass it on to a friend. This one I also bought the Kindle version. This is the best book for those who are or have been suffering with depression.
I would also recommend Healthy Aging which is just as good but needs a snappier title.

I have read other books by Andrew Weil, and while I like his message, he does tend to say the same things. I might read another book by him if it looked particularly intriguing.
The most interesting aspect was Dr. Weil's own experiences with depression. He made it seem real and that he understood. The least interesting was some of the same things he had repeated in other books.
He has a great voice for narration.

Yes, it has amazing information in it. It is very dry so I can not listen in the car, instead I listen when lying down and it leads to sleeping. That said, it is the type of book you listen to over and over by section and it is helpful that he announces what the chapters are about and refers back to them.
Chapter 10 helps you put it all together.

The concept that you can monitor your mental intake the way you monitor your food
NO NEED FOR BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES WHEN LISTENING TO A BOOK. ONE MENTION IN THE BEGINNING THAT ALL REFERENCES AND FOOTNOTES ARE IN PDF ... people tend to listen while relaxing or otherwise engaged, this sound recording sounds more like a classroom lecture where one is expected to have a pen and paper. Maybe they are and that is why I have to listen over and over?
This is a must read to anyone dealing with mood issues and trying to understand the common advice given by the mental health field on depression and mood stabilization.
