Publisher's summary

In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything "right" and raise up "good" children, it's easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.

In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God's plan for us as parents. Outlining 14 foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God - grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.

Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children's hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.

Amazing and enlightening! A MUST read!

This is such an amazing book! It was encouraging to hear that Gospel centered living doesn't stop at parenting and that it's okay to live with a heart of humility with your children as well. In my culture elders are right and if they're not it's ignored, I didn't/don't want to be that patent. I want my children to love Jesus not just while they're in my house but when they leave, this book was a great reminder of the need to reflect Christ's love & grace in ALL areas of my life but enforced how important it is to do so with my children. I intend on rereading this book as often as possible!

The message is essential, the reading horrible.

This book contains a gospel message that every Christian parent MUST hear. It is as essential to your presenting as Christ is to your salvation. On the other hand, accepting the subjectivity of personal taste, the narration of this book is solidly the worst I have ever experienced. The narrator uses this breathy, melodramatic tone that made me want to laugh at first, but seven hours later I could barely survive to the end. The timing and word emphasis is so random it sounds as though the narrator understands phonics, not not the actual meaning of the words he's reading. From a technical standpoint the recording is terrible too. There is a loud background hiss and the acoustics of the room in which the book was recorded are evident and distracting. All things considered it sounds like this book was recorded using the integrated microphone on a laptop by a "friend" of the author for free as a favor. Only because the content was so compelling was I able to make it to the end of this recording.

Disappointed: no application of principles to life

I was quite disappointed that Mr. Tripp continued to make the same point about grace - albeit a good one - over and over in each chapter. Yet he stopped short of giving tangible examples of what that looks like in true life to talk with our kids about this grace while we do still have to provide guidelines and consequences for decisions our children make. He kept giving examples and f what not to do - got it! I'd like to see some sample conversations of how to show this grace to a 4 yr old while still dealing with the many real challenges he presented in the book. If we are not Bible scholars or super skilled at understanding this grace as t applies to both is and our kids (as Tripp points out), then how on earth are we going to be able to have verbiage to talk to our kids (or even ourselves) about this grace while still handling melt downs and unpredictable kid behavior? I feel there were many "don't do" points but very few "do" points about how to be mindful of this grace while having to intervene on real fights, crying and disrespectful attitudes from our children. The book overpromised and underdelivered.

Grace over Anger is His Perfection

Tripp's theology is so different from mine and yet so compelling. Grace is Good.

My attention to this work was immediately as I read through each chapter's heading and synopsis. Tripp's approach in parenting through grace is Biblically sound. Our Father changes us within through grace and conviction and so it is grace and conviction through Him that changes our children. We are to be His ambassadors of change in the lives of our children and grandchildren and others for that matter. Thank you Dr.Tripp!

Life changing book...for EVERY person not just parents!

I can't recommend this book enough! It removes the massive burdens I had as mom to raise perfect children and put it directly in the only one in control....God! Not a book of lists of things to do....but a book of heart transformation that will change the way you relate to every situation-not just parenting! I enjoyed the audible version so much that I ordered the book so I could have access to constant reference!

One of the best parenting resources I've found.

This book is awesome! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting practical, biblical guidance on residing children. Paul Tripp does an outstanding job clearly showing the source of conflict with children and a practical, biblical real life way that *every parent* can lead their kids to a healthy lifestyle and relationships. This book exceeded my expectations.

Great job Mr. Tripp!

Good for all stages of parenting.

Make sure you get through the entire book. So as to not take the author's message out of context. I am thankful for this book.

Must Read- a Phenomenal Gift to Parents!

One, I liked that the narrator sounded like Paul Tripp- this was an awesome coincidence! Two, so, so, so much wisdom I have been putting to practice with my 15 month old and almost-five year old. The heart- focusing on prayerfully guided our children to understand their heart in its sinful state and their great need to repent and find forgiveness and transformation through our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus! I am purchasing a copy of this book so I can flip through its pages and highlight the points that I want to refer to again and again, as well as share with other moms!
