When Jennifer Scott arrived at the doorstep of a grand 16th Arrondissement apartment as a foreign exchange student, she was greeted by the woman who would become her mentor and the inspiration for the way she lived long after her time abroad was over. Madame Chic took the casual California teenager under her wing, revealing the secrets of how the French elevate the little things in life to the art of living.
Each chapter of Lessons from Madame Chic reveals a valuable secret Jennifer learned while under Madame Chic's tutelage in Paris - tips you can incorporate into your own life, no matter where you live or the size of your budget. Embracing the classically French aesthetic of quality over quantity, aspiring Parisiennes will learn to master the art of eating (deprive yourself not), dressing (the 10-item wardrobe), grooming (le no-makeup look), and living à la française. From entertaining with easy flair and formality to cultivating allure while living an active, modern life, Lessons from Madame Chic is the essential handbook for anyone wanting to incorporate that Parisian je ne sais quoi into her daily life.

I really liked the disucssion on cutting back consumerism and comparing French habits to American. It made me cut down my closet space a lot. Most of the stories she tells are interesting, but not all.
Life changing, funny, interesting and relaxing, a breath of fresh air. Listed to it many times. I wanted more! Will purchase the entire library and share it with the woman in my life
This is THE book for the modern woman/girl! It totally beyond my expectations. The author passionately shows you how you can live an adventurous and spontaneous life, and how to find pleasure in even the most mundane things. Also includes genius beauty tips! :)
This book was very entertaining and an easy listen. Good tips on lifestyle and self motivation. The narration was bland, almost robotic which did not match the style of the book. I enjoyed it overall.
It was a pleasure to hear someone express their impression of the "European woman" and explain just "what it is about them that makes them so wonderfully attractive." This book is a must read for any woman and I strongly encourage their daughters to read it as well!
I have not.
The true definition of "poise."
Extremely lovely guidebook for any woman of any age!
It's by far the better of two.
It's refreshing that the narrator kept a positive regard toward all subjects, many other books in reference to French culture fall easily into gossip and harsh comparatives.
Amy Rubinate's voice has very little range to it. Her words are tender yet monotone and I found myself lulled to into a meditative state and it would be minutes before I realized that she had been saying words. I would rather have my kindle read this to me with its computer generated voice- it is more engaging than she is.
I loved the lessons on exploring your neighborhood and on welcoming guests into your home.
This book is accessible to most readers- the themes and writing style are simple and easy to comprehend. I would recommend (in print, not audio) it to anyone who is curious of learning different ways of living.
