Publisher's summary

This program was previously published as Get Some Headspace: How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life in Ten Minutes a Day.

Quiet the mind, feel less stressed and less tired, and achieve a new level of calm and fulfillment in just ten minutes a day.

Andy Puddicombe, a former Buddhist monk, the Voice of Headspace, and the UK's foremost mindfulness expert, is on a mission: to get people to take 10 minutes out of their day to sit in the here and now.

Like his readers and students, Andy began his own meditation practice as a normal, busy person with everyday concerns, and he has since designed a program of mindfulness and guided meditation that fits neatly into a jam-packed daily routine - proving that just 10 minutes a day can make a world of difference.

Accessible and portable, The Headspace Guide to Meditation and Mindfulness offers simple but powerful meditation techniques that positively impact every area of physical and mental health: from productivity and focus, to stress and anxiety relief, sleep, weight-loss, personal relationships...the benefits are limitless. The result? More headspace, less stress. Andy brings this ancient practice into the modern world, tailor made for the most time starved among us.

A++++ will listen again

If you’re wondering, as I was: “I already use the app, is the book worth it?”

Yes. I can’t recommend it enough, *especially* if you already use the app or otherwise train in meditation.

I’ve been using the Headspace app on and (mostly) off for about a year. Not as often as I should, there’s at least a month or so I’d completely forgotten about it. But I kept coming back.

For a week or two before getting this though, I’d gone gangbusters on meditation and mindfulness. Something just clicked in my head. Suddenly I went from a few times a week to two, even three times a day, even starting to do unguided meditations. I couldn’t get enough.

Strangely enough, during this time, my mind just seemed like it was getting worse and worse the more I meditated, it was all over the place, which had never happened. It got so bad it began to concern me, so I figured I’d give this book a listen, at the very least I already knew he had a nice calming voice, so maybe it would calm me down.

To my surprise, he addressed the very problem I was having very early on in the book, in a very amusing story about “blaming the meditation”, as the same thing had happened to him.

I won’t ruin the story, but suffice to say it’s normal to feel this way at a certain point in your journey, and many other ways in other points, and the book really explains a lot of things more deeply than the app can.

Remove the meditation myths and learn a better way!

This amazing author shares his pitfalls in meditating during his years in the monasteries as a monk seeking enlightenment and reveals simple ways to become mindful. Ten minutes is all he suggests. Then he continues with practices for eating, walking, running, and getting a great night of sleep.
His voice is mesmerizing with the adorable British accent. If you read one book this year, this is the one. Then practice with the free app. Life is great!!!

Much needed For me (#ASMR)

My experience...

It gives me a birds eye view of monk’s life. And helps me to understand difference between the meditation and mindfulness. During my course of reading this book I felt more content with myself and things around me. And makes me feel good about being present. Finally and most importantly how to I have learned to integrate mindfulness on daily basis. This helps me to Change my prescription of life with the compassion and kindnesses, try yourself.

How is it?
First thing I want to mention the author voice is dope as ASMR. This book covers all the misconceptions about meditation. Most interesting part of the book is experience of the author as a monk, he just clarifies every possible pitfalls faced by everyone during their meditation. And how to incorporate mindfulness in your everyday life.

Try to explore yourself via mindfulness.

Let it Be

Subscribing to Headspace and using it regularly was definitely augmented by listening to this audiobook. All I can ask for now is for Andy to get in contact with Joe Rogan and make it on the podcast! 😌

Very informative for beginners.

It took a while to keep focused on listening, as Andy does have a very relaxing peaceful voice. Sometimes I would find myself dozing off, and so would just pause until I was ready to continue it another time. I like that the chapters are split up, and you can snooze it after a chapter ends. And although it is serious to focus, I like the humor in some of his stories that would lighten the mood and make me laugh. Now understanding the concepts of meditation more I am ready to use the Headspace app. I definitely recommend it for any beginners like me.

Get a grip on yourself.

I chose a 5 star rating because this is a great book with practical advise about how to meditate/be mindful for real, average people. It walks you one step at a time through the reasoning and actual process of meditating. Andy sprinkles studies throughout the book that support sound reasoning for practicing mindfulness lending credibility to the purpose and benefits of the activity as well as Andy. Andy’s own personal experiences as a monk and using meditation/mindfulness in his life also lends tremendous credibility as well as fun/informative stories that make Andy’s teaching easier to remember when doing your own practice. I personally used the accompanying Headspace app for a year prior to getting this Audible book. The book was a great compliment and further study of meditation to the App. I would recommend both to anyone wanting to get a grip on meditation/mindfulness and themselves. Thanks.
