"A practical guide not only to mindfulness meditation and healing, but daily life." (Joseph Goldstein, author of One Dharma)
"Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn eloquently explains the power of paying attention and increasing awareness. I strongly recommend this book for everyone who wants to begin healing [to] their life." (Dean Ornish, M.D.)
This is a good primer on the concept of mindfulness as a stress reduction tool. Is brief and concise enough to give you a basic understanding of what it is all about. You won't come away an expert or perhaps even at best, only a dabbler but it does a good enough job to make you want to learn more.
Jon Kabat-Zinn explains how to begin to practice mindfulness and tells reasons why this practice is beneficial.
Currently I am listening to Jon's Mindfulness Pain Reduction. This is my favorite since I need knee replacements and pain is constant. I have been able to reduce my pain medication.
If every person of power in this world read this book there would be no more wars, there would be no more hatred or disagreements because people would be caring and know how to help not hurt. Wow, what a great way to be, now, in the moment, not tomorrow, not yesterday, not even 10 minutes ago, just in the now
This book was very useful for me to manage chronic pain in a different way. Viewing pain in this manner has been more helpful to me than many medical treatments. I can also see how this method would help with stress, anxiety, insomnia and other chronic problems.
I couldn't get past 1/4 of the way. Repeating information doesn't help when new information is needed.
Not from this author but something along the lines of how to calm myself and meditate.
To much to mention. To much repetitive information.
I started listening to this when I had a major flare with my RA. I was in pain. I was stressing about work/life and this takes my mind off everything allowing me to relaxing and sleep. Even on a mega dose of steroids!
it was a good introduction to mindfulness. However it does not do the book Justice, the book is full of many more examples and situations that help it become more relatable.
I have danced with meditation for years...on and off. Mostly off. So this book comes as a welcome milestone in my experience. I have a far better understanding of and have received excellent instruction through this reading. More than I have learned from myriad sources in the past. I now experience a consistent, daily practice. Thank you, JKZ!
Jon Kabat Zinn's voice and words are therapy in themselves.
I cried when the book ended. MBSR has really helped me move forward with greater self love.
"A fantastic insight into meditation"
This is a must read for anyone that is interested in meditation whether you are new to the subject or you have been practicing for years. Jon Kabat-Zinn covers almost every aspect of meditation and the benefits that it can bring to our lives. He has a fantastic voice which is easy to listen to. He also has a guided meditation series which covers the meditations that he speaks of in this book which can be found on Amazon. If you enjoyed this book you should definitely give this series a go. He also has meditations on Audible although I have not listened to it yet. I would highly recommend this book.
The master of mindfulness. Essential reading for anyone aiming to develop their practice of being present peacefully and with compassion.
