The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.
In Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World, six-time New York Times number-one best-selling author Dr. Phil McGraw abandons traditional thinking and tells you the ugly truth about the users, abusers, and overall "bad guys" we all have in our lives. He also reveals the secrets of how they think and how they get to and exploit you and those you love. You'll gain incredible insight into these negative people, which he refers to as BAITERs (Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless), and you'll gain the tools to protect yourself from their assaults. Dr. Phil gives you the "Evil Eight" identifiers so you can see them coming from a mile away, as well as their "Secret Playbook", which contains the "Nefarious 15" tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially, and professionally. Life Code then focuses on you and your playbook, which contains the "Sweet 16" tactics for winning in the real world.
Edgy, controversial and sometimes irreverent, Dr. Phil again abandons convention to prepare you to claim what you deserve and claim it now. You take flying lessons to learn to fly, swimming lessons to learn to swim, and singing lessons to learn to sing. So, why not take winning lessons to learn to win?

His honesty and guidance on an important subject. He tells it like it is.
When he talked about protecting yourself from "baiters". I know a few "baiters" and wish I had heard this book a long time ago.
I like to hear Dr. Phil. He has a good voice for audio and I feel he really cares about helping others.
Beware of "baiters". Being more aware of my surroundings. Learn to toughen up more and be comfortable with negotiations.
Insightful, Groundbreaking, Imperative
Dr. Phil's description of his wife's inability to negotiate was touching and uncomfortable to listen to as a woman since my bargaining skills are extremely lacking. It made me realize that I really need to work on my negotiating skills as a woman. I don't want to be taken advantage of.
Dr. Phil's commitment to his sons is particularly moving as well as his desire to protect his wife and the people who watch his show and buy his books.
Highly recommended! I did not like the previous Dr. Phil book, but this one is a winner!
I think this book is geared to a young person that hasn't had much experience in life.
Well, first I will say I love Dr Phil. I quote him often. Yes, he went on and on about this book on his show, so it worked and I brought it. But, I have only listened to about the first 45 mins to an hour... I agree with other reviewers that he has just spent all that time telling me what he is going to tell me and how important it is. I got so bored and lost patience waiting for him to get to the content, that I gave up. I still have it in my library...but, it's been months and I still can't motivate myself to go back to it because of the slow start. if I had had the paper version, it would have been easier to see how long it was and how to skip all that.
More awareness about other's behaviors
I watch Dr. Phil's television show nearly every day. He refers to this book often, so I wanted to check it out. I was glad I did!
Chicagoan. Natural redhead. Happy mama of a corgi and a blue crown conure.
We all have those people in our lives. The ones that know how to work us just the right way to get us to do things they want leaving us feeling taken advantage of. With this book, Dr. Phil sheds light on what goes on in the minds of these people. And identifies keys to look out for to not get taken advantage of in life. At some point, you realize everything provided is common sense. And some of the descriptions of these people are really over the top (best saved for REALLY bad people). But it's interesting to see such common behaviors pointed out for so many people. Listening to Dr. Phil's descriptions even sheds a little light on your own behavior and maybe things that you yourself do that may be unintentionally hurtful to others in your life. He said he wrote this book to let his grand kids know about how people out there really can be. For them to be aware and not naive walking through life. I think reading through what he has to say, with it all in one place, is very eye-opening because it puts together a bunch of little pieces of things that you already know and gives you a good understanding of people in general.
Mom with a functional mind
I would recommend this audiobook to both friends and family because you are bound to get that Aha! moment.
Great Book, thanks Dr. Phil, you did it again.
When I realized that not all "smiling faces" cares about my well being.
Yes, I did.
The "New" Talk
Dr. Phil, himself. I'm a huge fan and I love his upfront, matter of fact approach to problems & solutions.
Dr. Phil, of course!
I've read other books, but this is the first time listening to Dr. Phil on audiobook.
I had quite a few "a-ha" moments and connected some dots.
Dr. Phil for president!!!
I liked his Texas charm and spin on things, but a lot of the book felt like it was added after he wrote the meat and potatoes of the book. That being said, the section on how to educate our children to spot and stay clear from baiters alone makes this book worth reading. I also liked how he talks about the constant negotiation of marriage and other relationships.
Please contact me if you find Stephen King, Catherine Cookson, Joe Hill, any good horror books.
Yes. I love listening to his voice, he is a fantastic reader.
definitely.ANd I did!
Thank you Dr. Phil. For caring so much about others. You are truly gifted. I wish there was a Dr. Phil when I was growing up.
