Publisher's summary

In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor"). Dad is Fat is sharply observed, explosively funny, and a cry for help from a man who has realized he and his wife are outnumbered in their own home.

Hysterical!

Jim Gaffigan hit it out of the park with this one. I commute 2 hours each way to work in terrible traffic, and I actually looked forward to my drive time while enjoying this audio. He's spot on with his observations, all the while doing it with love. I was literally laughing out loud - people must have thought I was crazy! A must listen for anyone who's had more than one child.. or thinking about it! 😂

Jim Gaffigan is a fun comedian

basically this book is just a very long set from Jim with slightly more anecdotes than quips. he talks about family life, kids, his wife, and travelling. if you like his comedy you will like this book. Again as with all the auto bios and comedy books, having it read by him added that extra oomph of him doing voices and emphasising what he wants to emphasize.

That Gaffigan sure is funny (and fat); he said it!

I've been a big fan of Gaffigan for a long time. And even though I am not a parent, I am a son and a friend of parents.. so i could relate. very funny and interesting.

for parents, after the first one is born

Pretty funny riff, primarily on life as a parent. While the pace of jokes is not quite equivalent to stand up, this is a pretty funny book.

Dad Is Funny

Dad is fat is a pleasant listen. If you know Gaffigan’s work, you know what to expect. If you don’t like his humor or his voice, don’t bother. If you are unfamiliar with Gaffigan, he is a clean comic and this book is pretty much only about his family. If you don’t find humor in the small parts of family life, don’t bother. I like observational humor about families and the inside out look and this book hit a nice space. Clearly Gaffigan is happy and happy to share with us what’s going on and how crazy a large family is.

Gaffigan’s delivery is (this is not a criticism) flat just like his standup. Maybe it’s a bit nasal or whiny. It works for him (and me.) The book is 5.5 hours long so not too short. It is good for a drive – I could easily listen to a bit on my drive in.

I’m giving it fours because, while it is good and funny and I will buy his other products, it is not to the level of Tina Fey, Nora Ephron, Dan Savage or David Sedaris. I’m looking forward to the books to follow as the kids grow up. Growing up doesn’t sound like it is ever going to be a problem for Gaffigan and I, for one, and pretty happy about that.

So many kids!

I had a great time listening to this book, allowed me to get a great view of what life is like living as Jim Gaffigan. I don't have children myself but it was great warning what it would be like to have so many kids. if you want to good clean laugh this book is definitely what you'll want to get.

Love Gaffigan but...

If you have listened/watched his comedy specials, you’ve heard all the jokes in this book before. The difference is the delivery is much less engaging that when he is on stage. The content of the book is still great and I still enjoyed it overall but it wasn’t as amazing as it could have been.
