Publisher's summary

In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor"). Dad is Fat is sharply observed, explosively funny, and a cry for help from a man who has realized he and his wife are outnumbered in their own home.

Dad is not Fat, He's a Funny Fatty

What did you love best about Dad Is Fat?

Jim Gaffigan manages to be funny with almost every single line. A rare talent

What other book might you compare Dad Is Fat to and why?

Hmmmm. Can't think of one that I've read.

Have you listened to any of Jim Gaffigan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Dad is Fat: A Love Story about Bacon

Any additional comments?

Jim's performance was very good, but at times it did feel like he was just reading, and not performing.

I enjoy Jim Gaffigan's humor.

Jim Gaffigan is a very talented comedian. I love listening to his take on different aspects of life. He brings a smile to my face every time I listen to his stand up as well as his books. Thanks Jim for the laughter.

Very enjoyable!

A funny overview of parenting that brought many memories back in review with laughter. Jim Gaffigan has a great way of expressing his father and family experience.

Laughed until I cried.

Laughed until I cried, and related to so many of Jim's moments as a parent.

Funny! And insightful

What did you like best about this story?

Gaffigan is hilarious. He delivers this book so well, and keeps you laughing for 5 hours straight.

Any additional comments?

This book takes you (hilariously) through the thoughts of being a single guy, to the lifestyle of a father of toddlers. I couldn't stop laughing, and thinking throughout the book. Highly recommend.

Pretty funny

This was a pretty funny book and I can relate to it a lot being a dad. I just wish there was a little less puns.

Loved it :)

This book was funny and I loved that it was read by the author. My kids are older now, but was still relevant and I'm passing it along to my sister, who will identify with the stories of younger children at home :) Loved this book!

If you have heard his stand-up, skip this book.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would, only if they also had kids. I can't see someone enjoying this unless they could relate, it's definitely a "parent to parent" type of book, if you don't have kids, it's hard to relate to a lot of it. I'm a huge fan of Jim's standup, but being so, I found this book very familiar, essentially it's his stand-up routines committed to writing.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Nothing really, just an ending.

Which character – as performed by Jim Gaffigan – was your favorite?

Probably, Jim Gaffigan as Jim Gaffigan.

Could you see Dad Is Fat being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

If it was it would be the same ol' big family shtick sitcom.

Any additional comments?

Funny stuff, if you haven't heard it before.

Being a parent is funny

If you could sum up Dad Is Fat in three words, what would they be?

Very funny stuff

What about Jim Gaffigan’s performance did you like?

His humor and the way he performed the comedy of the book made it very enjoyable.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Dad Is Fat?

As a parent of three, I just found it very funny and made me feel that I wasn't alone when it comes to my crazy kids.

Better toward end

Better toward end. Big fan of Gaffigan, but first chapters moved to slow for me
