When You Talk, Are People Changed?
Whether you speak from the pulpit, podium, or the front of a classroom, you don't need much more than blank stares and faraway looks to tell you you’re not connecting. Take heart before your audience takes leave! You can convey your message in the powerful, life-changing way it deserves to be told. An insightful, entertaining parable that's an excellent guide for any speaker, Communicating for a Change takes a simple approach to delivering effectively. Join Pastor Ray as he discovers that the secrets to successful speaking are parallel to the lessons a trucker learns on the road. By knowing your destination before you leave (identifying the one basic premise of your message), using your blinkers (making transitions obvious), and implementing five other practical points, you'll drive your message home every time!
"Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away…."
"Once upon a time…."
"In the beginning…."
Great stories capture and hold an audience's attention from start to finish. Why should it be any different when you stand up to speak? In Communicating for a Change, Andy Stanley and Lane Jones offer a unique strategy for communicators seeking to deliver captivating and practical messages. In this highly creative presentation, the authors unpack seven concepts that will empower you to engage and impact your audience in a way that leaves them wanting more.

A communication map-book.
When you are determining your goal for communicating, ask yourself, "Am I just passing along information or am I communicating something to help change someone's life?".
Remember the map: Me-We-God-You-We. (let the reader understand).
When you get stuck, remember: 1)What do they need to know? (information), 2) Why do they need to know it? (motivation), 3) What do they need to do? (application), 4) Why do they need to do it? (inspiration), 5) How can I help them remember? (reiteration)
I appreciate Lloyd James, however, with all do respect, I don't think his reading was anything outstanding. It was decently performed, but from a producer's point of view, it did lack a little in real 'first person" life likeness" and authenticity. It was good enough. I was not disappointed. Compared to some books I've heard, Lloyd is Awesome!
I still like and prefer a good exegetical sermon or Bible lesson, however, I believe Andy Stanley is the best communicator of this current season of time. His "One Point" approach is meeting a huge need and his method should be valued for the credit that it truly is!
I love it. This is definitely a selfless person who packaged, organized, and shared these great secrets for anybody who will listen. Never say never? The total value of this will never be calculated. The impact of change this could produce for preachers and other speakers whose goal is to change people's lives for better is immeasurable. The author has produced a creative way to help the listener/reader understand this powerful lesson. Thank you for this.
this is a good biok for pastors wanting to make sure they are getting their message out to the congregation. it is up to individuals to change bt I dont want to be a road block to change because I am not communicating the gospel. this book has helped
This audiobook ranks, I would say, in the top 20% of all audiobooks I've listened to so far.
Part 1 is an illustrative, hypothetical (could be biographical) story of who needs the book and why. Part 2 digs in with detailed explanation and theory behind the communication strategies illustrated throughout. The nature of the book is for church pastors, but I found it easy to follow the logic and emotion and can see how these strategies can be applied outside a spiritual environment as well as in non-speaking communication outlets. The narrator speaks too slowly for my taste, so I was glad to have the option of listening @ 1.25x speed.I look forward to implementing these strategies into my communication efforts, and I heartily recommend this audiobook!
Rather than being stressed about preparing a message, this book makes it something to enjoy and look forward to deliver.
It lays it out piece by piece, which if you follow everything falls into place.
The content was very engaging and very personal. Thank you Andy, for laying your life out there for us to learn from your example!
