Filled with practical tips and techniques, as well as real-life success stories from his fans, clients, and his popular television show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, Cesar helps you understand and read your dog's energy as well as your own, so that you can move beyond just correcting behavioral issues and take your connection with your dog to the next level. The principles of calm-assertive energy will help you become a better pack leader in every area of your life, improving your relationships with friends, family, and coworkers. In addition, Cesar addresses several important issues for the first time, including what you need to know about the major dog behavior tools available and the difference between "personality" and "instability".
Ultimately, what emerges from Be the Pack Leader are both happier dogs and happier, more centered owners.

If you have a Pack as we do, 4 border collies and 1 sheltie and things start to go haywire, it's true, look at your own life and the stresses you bring. We had a major incident in which one dog who is normally not aggressive got into with another and I thought my sheltie would lose his ear. They were reflecting my inner chaos and unhappiness from work and not keeping any pack order. Calm assertive has dealt with so much of the situation, exercise so much more. All my dogs walk well on or off leashes, but now they are so much more clear on who is the leader of the pack. The one dog we knew had problems (I hate the word issues) with strangers is so much better, especially since we've told people, don't look, don't talk, just basically ignore her. She comes around like the young dog she really is, rather than the tough thing she wants you to see. Did I mention they are rescues and each had to be rehabilitated. There have been so many times when I wish Cesar could appear and help, especially when I know he'll be in my area the first of the year, but this book is a close second. My physician uses it with his kids and I will pass it on to teachers at my school!
stories were entertaining and illustrative
include more practical tips, examples like to change this behavior, do this, etc.
pretty good narration
Not for me. I wanted more process to train my dog. I got a lot of stories.
This was the worst audio quality out of 20 books I have purchased. I hope it was an isolated incident. The appendix of the printed book has an appendix covering the topics I wanted to hear. The appendix does not appear in this edition.
Love it. Dogs are a mirror of your emotional state, only they don't respond the way you do, they become unbalanced. We often think our dog has the problem, in this book you learn what is unbalanced behavior and what to do to balance your dog and get the perfect dog you always wanted to have.
This book explained what you should do, but not how to do it. Cesar's suggestions are easier said than done, and without knowing how to effectively become a pack leader, or even some of the steps to take to start, this book is just a lot of words and repetitive thoughts.
Sitting down to read is a luxury, but I cannot sit still long enough to read the newspaper, so Audible keeps me "reading". I'm 40, 3 kids, super busy, and always driving somebody somewhere.
His model of Exercise, Discipline, Affection is so simple to follow and I found it works so effectively with my two big dogs. This is not a training manual but a book on dog psychology and how you can be the best leader for your special dog.
Cesar is my favorite character.
Cesar described his childhood in a 3rd world country as a young boy. His success is incredible.
His model is effective. Cesar reminds you that dog psychology is different than dog training.
I would listen to it again.
We plan to be new dog owners Christmas and wanted to listen to something with the kids on how to train and treat our new pet. We were shocked when Cesar through the F bomb early in the book. That was the only time but it kept me on edge as we listened to the rest of the book. This is probably a good book for those who have dogs but I think we need more concrete suggestions for our new puppy.
