Publisher's summary

Bethenny Frankel's no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is personality won over countless fans, and made her a nationally best-selling author and the star of her own hit Bravo show Bethenny Getting Married? Now Bethenny opens up and shares the obstacles she overcame and the great success she has enjoyed while discovering how to approach life from “A Place of Yes”.

Bethenny’s path was not always clear as she overcame a difficult childhood, failed relationships, entrepreneurial efforts that never quite got off the ground, and lifelong money struggles. To deal with these challenges, Bethenny developed 10 rules for pursuing her goals with authenticity and drive, including:

  • Find Your Truth: Dig deep inside and figure out what is authentic for you, not anybody else.
  • Act On It: You don’t have to have a master plan. But unless you do something, you’ve done nothing.
  • Everything's Your Business: Treat every job, person, and experience as if it could lead to your next big opportunity.
  • Own It: If you do it, say it, think it—then own it. Stand up for yourself and fully acknowledge who you really are.

Each rule is illustrated with compelling, sometimes funny, sometimes outrageous examples that are pure Bethenny. It’s easy to say no, to say “I can’t”, to expect the worst, and to doubt yourself. But your life can be better than “not bad” or “good enough”. It can be amazing. And by putting Bethenny’s rules together, you can use them to be more successful, more fulfilled, healthier, and happier than ever before.

Self-promoting

I like Bethenny on TV; she's funny and smart. The book comes across as self-gratifying. Even though she says it's not a memior, the book is not so much about "a place of yes" as about stories of her own upbringing, relationship and career struggles.

monotone, no feeling or enthusiasm

This book was not was I was looking for but the real reason for my review is because although this book was narrated by the author, it seemed like she had never heard the story before but was rather reading a manuscript for the first time. Her voice was mostly monotone and I had to really try to listen to the story. There was no feeling or enthusiasm. Maybe it would be a good book in print.

What is your tolerance level?

The good: she's broken a negative cycle and clearly describes the healthy behavior lead to a happier life. She makes some funny commentary on "manifesting" one's destiny.

The bad: far too much complaining to listen to; I had to turn it off. I hung in as long as I could listening for pearls but I feel like I really made a poor choice spending credits on this book.

Waste

What disappointed you about A Place of Yes?

Everything. This book was terrible.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Nothing like this.

What three words best describe Bethenny Frankel’s performance?

Bitchy,conceded and untalented.

What character would you cut from A Place of Yes?

Bethenny Frankel.

Any additional comments?

This was a huge waste of money. Don't do it! I heard good things about this book and I usually like books like this, but this was terrible. Please, don't be like me and waste what little money you have to buy books and such on this one.

Just couldn't get into it

I tried repeatedly to finish this book, I just couldn't. Then I ruined it by looking her up online and seeing that her marriage that she went on about being so wonderful ended with a nasty custody battle and just a lot of tabloid news. Maybe this worked for some but I just can't seem to overlook it enough to finish the book. While some of her insights seemed really good, it just didn't seem to match up to what she was actually living.
Wishing I would have saved my credit on this one.

Painful, Sexist and Annoying

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Not having bought it in the first place - what a mistake

Has A Place of Yes turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Any additional comments?

What an irritating person to listen to.... I've listened to/read many self help books over the years and would not recommend this one to anyone.

Just couldn't stand it !

I found her voice very annoying for several reasons. First of all she talks too fast for my liking, maybe because she is from NYC, although I know a lot of people from there who don't talk all that fast, Secondly she starts off with a whole bunch of negatives and it seems for 20 minutes or more that she's never going to get to anything positive or anything having to do with a "yes," and Thirdly, her voice / personality seems annoying in the way she presents things and ties them together. I listened for over 30 minutes and just got sick of it. Maybe she gets better later, but I will not listen more to find out, there are too many other better books out there ! !

Summery. Grow up in a dysfunctional family. Develop a semi sociopathic personality. Steamroll through good people life???s leaving destruction in your wake. Write a book about it. Sorry no thanks Bethenny. Live your life and I???ll live mine

Waste of time.

This book travels along with all the reality television.... TRASH. I was not able to finish the book and will recommend people read this only if they are shallow and immature. It read like a teenagers diary and a sniveling one at that.
