From the legendary basketball coach who inspired generations of athletes and businesspeople, an inspiring book about the power of mentoring and being mentored.
After eight books, many of them best sellers, A Game Plan for Life is the one closest to John Wooden's heart: a moving and inspirational guide to the power of mentorship. The first half focuses on the people who helped foster the values that carried Wooden through an incredibly successful and famously principled career, including his college coach, his wife, Abraham Lincoln, and Mother Teresa. The second half is built around interviews with some of the many people he mentored over the years, including Kareem Abdul- Jabbar, Bill Walton, fellow coaches, family members, and even a middle school coach in Canada.
Their testimony takes readers inside the lessons Wooden taught to generations of players, bringing out the very best in them not just as athletes but as human beings. In all, its an inspiring primer on how to achieve success without sacrificing principles, and on how to build one of the most productive and rewarding relationships available to any athlete, businessperson, teacher, or parent: that of mentor and protege.

I've listen to this book a couple of times and I love the mentoring I get out of it each time I do. John Wooden really led a special life so glad he took the time to write his wisdom down.
Yes, I would recommend this book to everyone. It will benefit anyone who chooses to read it.
The way John Wooden applied his beliefs and inspired everyone around him. Everything has a purpose and if done well will raise you to the next level.
Paul did a wonderful job at expressing emotions and bringing John Wooden and all of his wisdom back to life.
To set expectations for everyone around you, knowning that they cannot all be judged on the same scale.
Please take the time to read this book. It will only benefit you and the ones around you!
I love to make my mind think anew! For every book I read, my world grows. Maybe I need a bigger world, bigger then the one we have today?
I have found an important mentor for me and my life. What a great man. If your looking for a good mentor or person to learn from, John Wooden is of the one. Listening to the people that he has touched, it proves his size as a teacher and mentor. A must read for people wanting to be the best they can be.
This has been my favorite audio book so far this year.
In the second half of the book, people who have been mentored by John gave an account of the impact he has had on their lives. I thought this was an interesting approach. I really enjoyed hearing the chapters from Bill Walton and John's granddaughter.
I thought Paul did an excellent job narrating the book. He brought the right expression and it was a good pace to take everything in.
I appreciated the priority John Wooden place on ensuring he was helping people become better people as opposed to worrying about the wins and losses. I think that's a powerful message for any leader or coach.
Exceptional book. So many lessons I wish I had learned as a young man. One of two books that should be given to every high school graduate. Wild at Heart being the other one. Thank you Coach.
Great book for how to utilize mentors and how to ultimately be one. Does a wonderful job of showing that teaching someone doesn't just come from within a classroom. And that the impact people leave on one another can be some of the most powerful relationships in someone's life
definitely going to read several more times! there are so many gold nuggets throughout... I highly recommend this book is a must read and study for people of all walks of life and business!
