Cat Latimer pursues a scone-cold killer who iced a top chef in a local bakery....

Cat has a full plate at her Aspen Hills Warm Springs Resort, as a group of aspiring cozy mystery authors arrives for a writer's retreat. So when baker Dee Dee Meyer stirs up trouble by filing a false complaint with the health inspector against the B&B - all because she insists Cat's best friend Shauna stole her recipes - Cat marches into the shop to confront her.

But Dee Dee's about to have her own batch of trouble. Greyson Finn - a celebrity chef and, until today, one of Denver's most eligible bachelors - has been found dead in her bakery. Cat's uncle Pete, who happens to be the chief of police, warns her not to engage in any half-baked sleuthing. But as her curiosity rises, Cat's determined to discover who served the chef his just desserts - before the killer takes a powder....

A Cozy Gathering

It’s a Writer’s Retreat week and time for a new investigation. When a Top Chef is killed Kat does her best to stay out of it. A gathering of cozy mystery writers are just as much work as any other group. Great series.

Murder # 5 is here to be solved

Book 5 begins with another book retreat. The old gang has returned with a homespun banter we all love. A shocking murder happens in the town's bakery, and the murder is a difficult one to solve. Meanwhile the writers retreat has its own drama.

This book is a bit slower then the other 4 were---BUT---remember each addition to a series is a part of the whole story. I will be looking forward to what book #6 brings.

Not worth the time --

the narrator for this series is awful! I bought this book totally by mistake. I had returned book 1 of the series for the same reason.

She's Not Investigating

If you can get past the fact that the narrator mispronounces the title (kind of sets you up to pick apart the narrator rather than pay attention to the story) the book picks up at the next Writer's Retreat. It was a little odd not having any background on the victim, he just seem to be placed there and all the clues and suspects seemed very random. Sort of "Oh, by the way, everyone has a monthly poker game he is in. Oh, by the way, everyone owes him money. Oh, by the way, he is sleeping with all the women. Oh, by the way, he's owns all these properties..." The story wasn't as developed as previous in the series.
