Publisher's summary

Everything we now know about the universe - from the behavior of quarks to the birth of galaxies - has come from people who've been willing to ponder the unanswerable. And with the advent of modern science, great minds have turned to testing and experimentation rather than mere thought as a way of grappling with some of the universe's most vexing dilemmas.

So what is our latest picture of some of the most inexplicable features of the universe? What still remains to be uncovered and explored by today's scientists?

"We know a lot about the universe. But there's even more that we don't know," says astrophysicist and professor Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium, an award-winning lecturer, and one of the world's foremost experts on the secrets of the universe. This course, which has been honored with a 2013 Telly Award for Outstanding Educational Program, features six self-contained lectures that transport you on a marvelous journey to the frontiers of the known (and unknown) universe and introduce you to tantalizing questions being addressed by the world's top scientists. Engaging and fascinating, this lecture series is a wonderful entrée to scientific pursuits that lie at the very heart of the history and nature of our universe.

Quick Overview of Everything

Title says it all.
Tyson tends to have to many pauses in his speech, like he hasn't prepared the material. Minus 1 star for performance.

But the material he covers is great. However, I disagree with his "1% different" aliens. If there are aliens, they will definitely be much more different than a percent, and that difference is not as likely to be in intelligence as other qualities.

Likewise, an alien species does not have to be leaps and bounds ahead of us in tech and intelligence for space travel. It only needs one "person" out of billions to have one moment of brilliance. Everything else is just brute force.

Intriguing

This was fascinating. I have no background in physics, but I found the questions presented throughout the course very thought-provoking. Furthermore, the lecturer presented them in a straightforward, user-friendly manner that any amateur could follow. I will be seeking out more on this subject.

Thought provoking fun

If you could sum up The Inexplicable Universe: Unsolved Mysteries in three words, what would they be?

Thought provoking fun

Any additional comments?

The topics covered are highly fascinating points of science we still don't fully understand, Tyson, in his usual witty style, takes us through brief history lessons as well to fully understand the modern concepts. Well done.

Nice, very brief physics flyby

An interesting but very short look at some matters of physics. It's not easy to catch on to everything when flying through it at this rate, but still may be worth it.

Awesome & Awe Inspiring lectures

Neil deGrasse Tyson is incredibly talented, he not only knows all of the subject, but he explains it so even a High School dropout (that would be me), understands it; plus he makes it fun, Fred and Barney. I need to get more things from him.

Inspiring!

Another fine set of lectures by Dr Tyson! I find them a deep inspiration to return to school in my dotage (now!) and study astrophysics, cosmology, and really understand this material at a deeper level.
