Here, the man who started the "food revolution" with the million-plus-selling Diet for a New America, boldly posits that, collectively, our personal diet can save ourselves and the world. If, according to chaos theory, the beating of a butterfly's wing can cause a hurricane in another part of the world, try this out for chaotic cause and effect: monarch butterflies are dying in droves due to genetically-engineered corn growing in the Midwest. There is also a direct correlation between the Big Mac in your hand and the mile-wide river now running across the North Pole. Learn the truth about foods we are eating that are, in Robbins' words, "unsafe on any plate."

“The message is enough to scare you straight off processed foods.” (AudioFile)
“Well researched and lucidly written… this book is sure to spark discussion and incite readers to examine their food choices.” (Publishers Weekly)
“Those who want to know more about vegan diets will gain many insights from his provocative book.” (Library Journal)
It ranks at the top 3.
It works effectively as a precursor or a follow up to the The China Study by T. Collin Campbell.
Robbins brings more inflection and passion to his written words.
This book can and has changed lives for the better. There is so much going on in the food industry that the average person is not aware of. Robbins doesn't throw out glittering generalites. In the printed book, he presents his information and backs it with scientific findings from an exhaustive number of footnotes. This is important to note since you don't realize this just from the audio book alone. The information is solid and thankfully he is helping to heal the planet, one reader at a time.
The most amazing experience with this book was the eye-opening information on how we learn about health throughout our lives! If you want to live healthy and lose weight - READ THIS BOOK!
Another worthwhile book to read besides this one is The China Study
The Food Revolution inspired me to help the world by changing my own diet - it's incredible what an impact our own food choices have not only on our own health but the entire world and starving people on other parts of our planet!
Love, love, love, love this book!
This was my favorite nonfiction. I was greatly impressed with what may have been unparalleled insight. Amazingly, this book was written 16 years ago, but is still very relevant! .Unfortunately, it is also a call to action, as you can appreciate just how little progress we have made, especially in the US. With more awareness, action will certainly follow!
John Robbins has an ability to say so much, clearly and quickly - this is great writing. The references were excellent, and you know when you are getting a personal opinion and when you are getting fact. I have read or listened to many books (blogs, podcasts, as well) on how the environment, animal welfare, and human health are deeply interconnected. Many books on these subjects can be dry with too much data and reference material. This was abridged nicely with a nice flow making continual and lasting mental impressions. There were around 70 chapters each covering a topic for 5 minutes or so.
It was a real treat having John read his book. His sincerity shined though, while the other narrators, used for role-play, effectively kept me engaged.
Because so much troubling information is presented, I sometimes needed a a break.
Another great book on the myriad benefits of a whole foods plant based diet. I really wish this message would get out there more. The world would be a far better place. People would be dramatically healthier. The environment would substantially improve. And many millions of sentient intelligent animals would not spend their entire short lives in tortured misery.
Outstanding book. Highly recommended.
So much a didn't know about the politics and payoffs behind the advancement of GMO foods and the politicians in the pockets of Monsanto! And why it is so important to educate ourselves on why we need to eat more plant based and organic foods. For our well being and our planets!
Great book. Some of the voices were a bit robotic but I enjoyed it overall.
"Didn't manage to finish it"
Although I agree with the overall idea of the book, its a bit preachy & I don't agree that being a vegan is better for you than not, so I found this book a little difficult
