In the past decade, depression rates have skyrocketed, and one in four Americans will suffer from major depression at some point in their lives. Where have we gone wrong? Dr. Stephen S. Ilardi sheds light on our current predicament and reminds us that our bodies were never designed for the sleep-deprived, poorly nourished, frenzied pace of 21st-century life.
Inspired by the extraordinary resilience of aboriginal groups like the Kaluli of Papua New Guinea, Dr. Ilardi prescribes an easy-to-follow, clinically proven program that harks back to what our bodies were originally made for and what they continue to need. The Depression Cure program has already delivered dramatic results, helping even those who have failed to respond to traditional medications.

"Practical, straightforward, grounded in persuasive research, this book is recommended for anyone seeking an alternative approach to treating depression." (Library Journal)
Yes, I plan too. Because of all the good information. You will learn more about depression than you ever thought possible. I found myself saying "oh my God I do that!" over and over again. I found out more about myself and why I think or do what I do! I began seeing a difference in my depression within 1 day of listening to this book. I began simply with Omega-3 vitamins and once I felt better I worked my way up to sunny day walks. I am now socializing again and feeling the happiness I once felt. I plan on slowly getting off my depression pills within the next week because I no longer feel I need them. Sometimes all it takes is the right vitamin and the right words. This guy "gets" me more than I got myself.
Realizing that I was not going to be at the mercy of the traditional prescribing medical community or a basket case!

Other books on depression are too complicated for those who are depressed already!
Recommend it for those who truly suffer and battle with depression. This will give a glimmer and then a sense of there really are remedies to help.
I looked into several books on depression and this one had the most practical, common sense approach of them all. In general it contains a lot of good advice for taking care of your body and mind even if you don't suffer from depression. I highly recommend this for anyone.
This is a great book on a very dry subject. It was full of very sound, practical and "do-able" advice. Only wish the narrator had been someone else. He sounded like Rod Serling of the Twilight Zone.
It's simple really, I am just a guy looking to enjoy the writing and reading talents of others while raising my family the best I can, just Like most everyone else!!!
I have a dear family member that did me a favor, they listened from the 7:35 mark until the 25:02 point (I bookmarked it for them). That is all that I asked. I did it in an attempt to help although I knew it would only work if they were ready (ready enough) for it to work. Well, it really worked! They started the 1000mg Omega 3 vitamin that very hour and what a difference it made in her. She never ate fish, hated it, and she is allergic to nuts so she was really lacking in the fatty acids that help the brain. She also did the other thing that was mentioned, kept busy when she was thinking too deep about negative things.
The book is over 6 hours long but was helped in the first 18 minutes, wow. What a wonderful tool for life! Thank you Dr. and Audible!!!
P.S., I suggest reading the whole book in time!
Easy to follow steps and patient life stores
I like to keep it short and brief. This is a good program if you want resolve your depressive symptoms with out resorting to medication.
Of all the self-help books on depression that I have read, this is by far the best. It identifies proven steps an individual can take to elevate their mood, and the author speaks with authority because he is an expert.
Some great advice, information and actionable content. It was easy to digest and written for regular people - not PHD's.
Life long compulsive reader & lover of recorded books
I was looking for the details on this particular approach to depression and the book provided it succinctly. It is a good reference source and as such I can see myself consulting it again
This is a non-fiction book describing a very specific approach to depression
The narrator was adequate
