Publisher's summary

The landmark book that has revolutionized the way we understand leadership and decision making - from number-one best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell.

In his landmark best seller The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant, in the blink of an eye, that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept? Why do some people follow their instincts and win, while others end up stumbling into error? How do our brains really work, in the office, in the classroom, in the kitchen, and in the bedroom? And why are the best decisions often those that are impossible to explain to others?

In Blink we meet the psychologist who has learned to predict whether a marriage will last, based on a few minutes of observing a couple; the tennis coach who knows when a player will double-fault before the racket even makes contact with the ball; the antiquities experts who recognize a fake at a glance. Here, too, are great failures of "blink": the election of Warren Harding; "New Coke"; and the shooting of Amadou Diallo by police. Blink reveals that great decision makers aren't those who process the most information or spend the most time deliberating, but those who have perfected the art of "thin-slicing", filtering the very few factors that matter from an overwhelming number of variables.

Drawing on cutting-edge neuroscience and psychology and displaying all of the brilliance that made The Tipping Point a classic, Blink changes the way you understand every decision you make. Never again will you think about thinking the same way.

For most, a "beach read" tends to be easy to digest. On HBO’s new hit series The White Lotus, however, that standard is questioned. Throughout the show, characters consume challenging texts from Nietzsche to Malcolm Gladwell while lounging at the luxury resort. If you are looking for an opportunity to up your game for your next beach visit, look no further than this list of books we spotted in the show—in audio, of course, to help them go down easier.

amazing. I'm definitely going to relisten!

And I don't usually reread/relisten to books. But this one was the one you just couldn't stop listening to. It was so interesting, and had so much useful knowledge that's going to color the way I look at the world! I already shared insights from it with my team at work, with friends, and with my husband at home.

Even better the second time around

Malcolm does such a great job in this book of illuminating the concept that "Intuition doesn't come to an untrained mind". I'm even more impressed by this writing post the George Floyd trial and the yearlong BLM discussions that have started to truly open up more people's minds to the issues of solitary second judgement and stereotyping. Thank you, Malcolm, for such an insightful read/listen!

Ahead of its time

This book was written around 2004 I am reading it in 2022. It is amazing how Malcom Gladwell is able to explain the power of first impressions for good and bad that happen in the blink of an eye. Profund conclussion on how We can use this knowledge to turn our decisión making process in a World where the subject matter of unconcious bias is trending.

Great information

The narrator was very hard to stay engaged with. The information was worth forcing my way through the book.
