Publisher's summary

No one creates realms like New York Times best-selling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities - vampires and shape-shifters among them - who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut - a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg's Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard - a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she's keeping a secret, and second, she doesn't smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she's wanted by the government, he'll have to decide if she's worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

A book I was iffy about. I just finished the 6th.

I was not really sure about how I would like this book, I got it on a whim because of the name and cover art and MAN am I glad that I did.

It is a very good series with pleanty of personality. Violence, blood, gore, a small amount of foul language and usually only from the less savory characters. Later on the books have a tinge of romance but they mainly deal with a "Fish out of water" main character that has no idea what is going on, and neither does the reader for the most part since the book is about what are essentially werewolves, but expanded to crows, bears, coyotes, vampires that turn to mist and physical manifestations of nature aspects like winter, fire and quicksand. They have their own rules and reading along it is interesting as hell and gets even better book by book as you actually grow to like most of the characters and dislike the villains. I would buy this book again and again.

Great writing!

I was very impressed with this book. It has a good story line. The author gives you enough background to feel satisfied but not so much as to weigh you down with it. I also love that it takes a while before the main characters can even get along versus the tendency of other series to make the main characters soul mates by page 5. Meg starts out appearing as a small, weak human. However, the book slowly reveals that there is much more to her than meets the eye and is able to stand up to the strong willed terra indigene. I am definitely going to read more of this series. I would also be interested in seeing if this author has more than this series as well.

One of the best fantasy series!

I love this series! Anne Bishop's writing makes you care about the characters. She gives you characters that are interesting and intelligent. They grow and learn and are enjoyable to read about. I am amazed with the imagination required to invent such a story.

I've read all three in this series and look forward to the next one coming out soon. This is a PG 13 book so teens can enjoy it as well as young adults and adults.

The narration is perfect for the story. It seems a little slow but works with Meg's character. Alexandra does a great job with the male voices, elderly, child-like and all the strange species of the "Others." Worth the credit and the time if you like fantasy.

Combines lots of themes into one world

I enjoyed it. Sometimes I felt the natural abilities of some of the characters will unrealistic. But I thoroughly enjoyed everything else.

Great female protagonist. Also, some people complained about the narrator, I actually really liked her voice and thought she did an excellent job differentiating characters.

definitely a good listen for fun

it's straightforward and has you rooting for the others in a genuine way.
good action, lots of cool creatures to picture in your mind, and good concepts of the dislike of being captive while maintaining a fun atmosphere
