Publisher's summary

No one creates realms like New York Times best-selling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities - vampires and shape-shifters among them - who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut - a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg's Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard - a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she's keeping a secret, and second, she doesn't smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she's wanted by the government, he'll have to decide if she's worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

Exceptional

I loved this story. My favorite parts include Meg playing and teasing the wolves! I also enjoyed the idea of the Elementals and still trying to figure out Tess.

Worth the listen!

Would you consider the audio edition of Written in Red to be better than the print version?

Yes. The characters came to life for me when listening.

What other book might you compare Written in Red to and why?

I won't compare for fear of someone not liking who I compare it to.

Have you listened to any of Alexandra Harris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The development of the Wolf Pup Sam.

Any additional comments?

I throughly enjoyed this book! I know some people may be standoffish and reluctant to invest their time in another supernatural series, but I hope they will give this one a shot. The story is captivating and the characters are well developed. I never felt like I was stuck in another predictable supernatural young adult book as this one did not have that tween feel that so many others do. Often by the end of a book I am tired & ready for it to end, but with this book I found myself never wanting it to end. I was reluctant to leave the world of Meg, Simon, & the wolf pup Sam. I found myself entranced by the world of the "Others" and can't wait to return when I start the 2nd book "Murder of Crows". I hope there will be many more books to come in this great new series.

So good I couldn’t write a review the first time!

I just had to listen to the next in the series and then the next... Meg is adorable and the interactions with The Others is so fun and adorable that it makes me smile and excuse me as I go listen to the second in the series again!

Timeless, thrilling, personal

I love listening and re-listening to this book. The characters are fun and relatable. The setting is unique and relatable at the same time. Lakeside could be any big city, and the market square of the courtyard any market square. The reader can really immerse themselves into the story and feel along with the characters.
