Publisher's summary
In this second volume of the sprawling dark fantasy epic The Breaking World, gods and armies are on the move as all of Dezrel prepares for war…and nothing short of total subjugation will suffice.
In the east, Karak invades Paradise with an army 20,000 strong. Meanwhile, Ashhur travels west along the Gods’ Road, gathering as many of his people as he can against the coming onslaught. In Mordeina, the Wardens raise a massive wall around their settlement with the assistance of spellcasters from the north. And in Dezerea, the Quellan elves move secretly to join the fray.
In the ensuing chaos, lines between hero and villain are eradicated, and deceit and betrayal dominate as brother gods vie for control over the fledgling human race.

Almost
The writing is compelling enough that I couldn't stop listening . The story almost develops characters well, almost is coherent, is almost entertaining. Nick Podehl is the reason I will eventually listen to the next book. His skill at breathing life, color, depth -- realness to the story- made it worth the listen. The story is also gory and dark. The writers are very skilled in crafting cringe.

When your villains are truly villainous...
This book falls into the truly dark part of fantasy. Some of your heroes become villains in rare form, while one villain takes a beautiful turn towards the light.
Yet, the book is dark. The bodies pile up, too.
It’s a great second book in a trilogy. Well worth the time to listen/read.

Almost returned...almost.
I didn't mind the first book. I did not like this one at all.
Plot was leaking all over the place and the characters degraded to paper dolls, easily torn. I had the whole thing playing as background noise by the end.
Sorry, won't be following the rest of this story.
