Publisher's Summary

Audie Award Winner, Multi-Voiced Performance, 2014

World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition): An Oral History of the Zombie War is a new version of Max Brooks' episodic zombie novel. The abridged versions of the original stories are now joined with new, unabridged recordings of the episodes that were not included in the original (abridged) version of the audiobook. These additional episodes feature a star-studded cast of narrators to coincide with the upcoming release of the film.

New narrators include Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, Spiderman star Alfred Molina, The Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont, rapper Common, Firefly star Nathan Fillion, Shaun of the Dead's Simon Pegg, and members of the casts of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Heroes and more! Max Brooks will be reprising his role as The Interviewer.

The original abridged edition, released in 2006, won an Audie Award for Best Multi-Voiced Performance. Original cast members include Alan Alda, Mark Hamill, Carl & Rob Reiner, and John Turturro.

In this new classic of apocalyptic fiction that feels all too real, the Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. The documentary-style oral history records the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time.

Featuring five more hours of previously unrecorded content, this full-cast recording is read by F. Murray Abraham, Alan Alda, René Auberjonois, Becky Ann Baker, Dennis Boutsikaris, Bruce Boxleitner, Max Brooks, Nicki Clyne, Common, Denise Crosby, Frank Darabont, Dean Edwards, Mark Hamill, Nathan Fillion, Maz Jobrani, Frank Kamai, Michelle Kholos, John McElroy, Ade M’Cormack, Alfred Molina, Parminder Nagra, Ajay Naidu, Masi Oka, Steve Park, Kal Penn, Simon Pegg, Jürgen Prochnow, Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner, Henry Rollins, Jeri Ryan, Jay O. Sanders, Martin Scorsese, Paul Sorvino, David Ogden Stiers, Brian Tee, John Turturro, Eamonn Walker, Ric Young, and Waleed Zuaiter.

    "Pleasantly surprised"

I'm generally not zombie guy I have a lot of problems with The science of African rabies or whatever it is you wish to call it. However this book is exceptional speculative fiction exploring what would happen to various sectors of society under the conditions of it nearly unkillable foe.

    "One of the best!"

This is one of the best novels of the 21st century! It is the best zombie novel, the best audio book I have found, and a joy to read or listen to. The full cast is simply amazing and full of talented stars. Don't expect this to be anything like the movie.

    "Fantastic"

This book is fantastic, they took a thing like the zombie apocalypse and made it seem real. One one part when they are talking about using dogs to help soldiers and the relationship between them seemed so real. In the section where the general talks about the need for blue collar workers and how this world didn't need stock brokers was amazing. This book took things and made them seem real.

"NOTHING like the film (in the best way possible)"
What made the experience of listening to World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition) the most enjoyable?

While there are some concepts in this book that inspired the plot of the movie, the format and plot (or lack thereof) are entirely different.

This book is written as a series of interviews retelling the story of a world wide zombie "apocalypse" (can it be an apocalypse if civilization survives?) and thus has no singular protagonist or plot line.

I LOVE this as an antidote for those days when you've listened to too many audiobooks and all their plot lines and narrative styles start to feel repetitive and they all bleed together in your mind. This more like listening to a podcast series or a radio show or documentary than anything, which is refreshing!

What other book might you compare World War Z: The Complete Edition (Movie Tie-in Edition) to and why?

I don't know that I've ever read another book that compares to this, at least in format and style. A unique and enjoyable listening experience!

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I LOVED the narration. Each chapter focuses on a different character from a different corner of the globe, focusing on a totally different experience. Most narrators were great, nailed the accents. Even the occasional vocal style that started to grate on me wasn't too bad because each chapter is only 15-20 minutes and then you're on to the next story!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too many to count. Alan Alda's performance was especially great, but I loved any of the parts that focused on how to strategically rebuild society after the fact. Also the story of the pilot saved by the phantom "mets fan".

A couple of scenes even moved me almost to tears, like the Israeli soldiers who attempted to resist mandatory service and were divided into groups of ten for the "decimation".

This audiobook has great range-- moments to make you laugh, give you chills, make you cry, and give you hope.

    Any additional comments?

If you're a fan of zombie media (walking dead, etc) GET THIS BOOK!

If you're not really a fan of zombie media, but appreciate a well told, inventive thriller, GET THIS BOOK!

If you enjoyed the movie at all, GET THIS BOOK!
