Publisher's summary

"The end was near." Voices from the Zombie War.

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched firsthand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living - or at least the undead - hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.

Brilliant

The movie was like a Zombie version of this beautiful book. Lifeless.
The Audible version is especially well done. One of the best Audio Books around. Please go ahead and listen to this book.

Brilliant, Simply Brilliant

A collection of perspectives weaves a beautiful story of the fall of humanity in the wake of the living dead. It does well to avoid the cliches, for the most part. The best part, it spans the globe, and that gives it proper weight.

The movie failed to capture the scope simply because a story like this needs to he a series. What a ride that would be.

Amazing.

What did you love best about World War Z?

World War Z felt realistic as much as a fictional world with zombie in it can be. After reading the Zombie Survival Guide, these short stories really captured the urgency and seriousness of a wide spread plague epidemic rather than a gung-ho kid's wet dream. Don't get me wrong those are fun but the seriousness and tragedy of these stories made me care about these people.

What did you like best about this story?

Its format was really enjoyable and I can listen to any part just by itself. Since it is mostly made up of short stories, I can just play back the story I was listening to or just let it finish and start a new chunk.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The accents. It made the apocalypse feel like it just wasn't isolated in America. I have no idea how accurate they were but it was great listening to these fictional people recount their stories from different countries.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Haven't finished it yet but I really liked the smuggler, spy, little girl and soldier short stories.

Stunning story

I am not disappointed in the storyline or the actors in this audio play. They did a fantastic job. You are really sucked in. My disappointment is that I did not wait for the star studded companion piece to the film. Seeing the list of actors afterwards, I could easily imagine which parts they would play. Well worth the listen, even if I was quick to order.

Perfect for Audiobook

This novel is perfect for an audiobook. The interview nature makes it very engaging. Not just that, the story is very smart and compelling

More than just Zombies

I loved this book when I read it years ago and was thrilled to find it available. All the narrators do a fine job although the Australian accent was a bit sus. I loved the sweeping canvas and the many effects a world wide viral infection would have on everyone from how to survive day to day to the long term rebuilding of the world post apocalypse.

Where does World War Z rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am not big zombie's story fan, but the approach of the book (after war) the different stories (different point of views - characters so differents) and the different narrators (voices and accents) make it a very good audio book.

I really enjoy the format and the performance. If I have to find something to critic I will say one or two stories had too much of weapon's details and i felt lost :-) and it look too long. but my rating still 5 stars.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
