Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In Winter's Heart, the ninth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al'Thor and his friends face personal trials in their quests to build alliances against the Dark One.

After locating Masema Dagar, the Prophet of the Dragon, on Rand’s behalf, Perrin Aybara returns to his encampment to discover his wife Faile has been abducted by the Shaido Aiel. Determined to reclaim her, Perrin forgoes his mission, risking his army in pursuit of a dangerous and unpredictable enemy.

Wounded and trapped in the Seanchan-occupied city of Ebou Dar, Mat Cauthon is awaiting an opportunity to leave. But he is not the only one in hiding. Three Aes Sedai are desperate to escape. As Mat seeks a way to smuggle them all out of the city, he encounters his own prophesized fate when he meets the Daughter of the Nine Moons.

Rand himself is on a mission of vengeance. He has tracked the traitorous Asha’man who tried to kill him to Far Madding. It is a city where no one is capable of channeling the One Power, leaving Rand vulnerable to those who would stop at nothing to destroy the Dragon Reborn…

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Better than the last one

This book moved the stories forward. I’m still bothered by the changes made between the two narrators. I prefer the masculine voice.

Better the 2nd time around

Finished my reread of this book on 11/01/23. Like the previous 2 books in the series, I enjoyed this one a lot more on this reread. Yes, it is slow, you get about 4 to 5 chapters with one particular character and then you don’t read about them again. However, there’s a lot of depth to every chapter. I’m not sure if I’ll ever reread this again but I’m glad I didn’t skip it. Not sure I’ll read Crossroads of Twilight yet.

Also fans of the series need to stop telling new readers about the “slog” as it really ruined my experience with this book the first time around.

the absolute best fantasy series is all time

I'm on my 3rd listen through this series and I can't express how incredible it is. the characters feel like old friends and the story is as close to perfect as a series can get.

Slow but good

This book was slow but unlike POD it developed characters and made massive steps towards Tarmon Gaidon

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I don’t understand the WoT fan-base.

The “slog” was at the beginning of this series. Now that I’m in the thick of the story, I am enjoying the books. People talk about this book being part of the slog, and I cannot wrap my head around it. Same with the last book. They are all written very similar, just now I care about the characters, story, and world. Whereas the first 4 books were difficult to read as they dragged on and on.

Can’t wait to get to the next book because the final battle felt like the beginning of a new age!

Slow in the beginning but what a ending

One of the slower moving plots of the series. The ending however is fantastic and makes it worth your time. I do feel books 8,9&10 could be done in 1 maybe 2 books, but the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.

200 pages of excellence, 500 pages of useless

As i felt when i first read the WOT, the series becomes bogged down by its own weight. It's easier to deal via audible at 2.0 speed, but useless chapters remain useless chapters and tedius characters remain tedius characters.

That will always be my critique of the WOT: 70% of it is the very best story an American has ever written; 30% of it makes you want to pull your teeth out.
